I thiik that I have overtightened the idle screw on my 2.5 and now it does not tighten at all (loose thread). When I try to tighten it, it does go in and the carburetor slide opens up or slides out but when the carburator slide goes back in the closed position the idle screw pops out slightly.

My question is do I need a whole new carb or can I just get the carburetor body only. I could not tell if the carburator body comes with the idle screw.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alex

you can buy just the carb body. here is the info you need:

Traxxas 2.5 engine composite carb body: part number 5234, price is 16.00

Traxxas 2.5 Idle set screw: part number 5241, price is 4.00

u may not need the ISS, but for 4 bucks, mine as well get it. hope that helps.

Thanks Nitroaddict

Nitroaddict, thanks for the quick reply. I was afraid that I had to buy the whole carb for $50 which was making me wonder if I should just splurge and get the Sirio .18 instead.

Oh well, I'll just use this 2.5 till it dies and then I'll replace it with the Sirio or Fantom.

You could JB weld it in place. Since it is already stripped out you really have nothing to lose. Once set, you shouldn't have to change it anyway.

i change my iss setting failry frequently, depending on the outside air temp, as the colder it gets the leaner the engine gets, and it will start to speed up at idle

Do not JB weld it. as Nitroaddict mentioned as you tune, you may need to adjust your idle slightly. Having no way of doing that you would then have to try to adjust the lsn to match the opening in the barrel for the idle, giving you a false setting, either too rich or too lean depending on the weather. The idle opening should be aproximately 1 1/2mm open, but this will change ever so slightly with weather temp changes, and lsn settings. It's adjustable for a reason, for the $16 i would fix it right.
