I have an hpi evo+ and I am wanting to get started into drifting. I have already ordered drift tires and I have been reading about people that lock there rear diff but I have no idea how to do that and what exactly does it do? Any help would be awesome.

i dunno about on nitro but on electric the guys that were locking them were using hot glue gun and hot glue taking the diff apart and filling it with hot glue, "they said" it can be removed later...

Actually I had never thought about hot glue but that is not a bad idea at all. You are correct is would not be to bad to get back apart.

i believe the rs4 has ball diffs in which case you would need to buy a spool.

You can lock a ball diff. You need to screw in the screw very tight.

You can buy a spool. It's just like a diff. without the balls and it's solid.

Right now, I don't see a spool made for the HPI Evo+. Your best bet is to tighten up that screw all the way. The problem is that if the nut at the end isn't a lock nut, you may experience it loosening up. I had this problem with my TC4 diff. but after getting a spool it's much better.

you have a screw that goes in the middle of the two outdrives in your diff. its the longest screw in your diff assembly. as you tighten it, it put more pressure on the balls. you can torque it down to semi lock the rear but if you have any kind of real power going to it, you will burn your ring gear from slipping.

oh yeah if your drifting with nitro. lean the lsn a very little and fatten up the top end. that will give you good response with cool running.
