live chat room!!

what do you guys think of a live chat room here on rcnt i tihnk it would be neat get to actually chat with someone live but it would have to be for members only because you know how some idiots come in to start poop but i think alot of the guys can vent in there....lol what you guys think about this?

Sounds good, maybe one or two... like a FFA and a chat about actual trucks and the like. But there is always I'm services. But a live chat room would be cool I think.

But then the issue of bandwidth will arise...

bandwidth no problem woodies got us covered he has enough to stretch to hawaii!!! like right now its late no one chat with one via aswering someones problems,but if we had live chat forum i could chat with kodama.......a large chat room maybe 20 users at a time or more if posable

I thought about bringing this up not too long ago myself. I think it's a great idea hb. I think it would be a great perk for "members only" but i wonder if there are enough "members only" online at once at any given time to justify having a service as such... know what I mean? I would use it a lot I know, I jump online all the time... 5 min here 10 minutes there.. probably a dozen times a day or so. Then there's the issue of content like you mentioned. I'd guess Woodie would have to bring on like 1 or 2 more mods to cover cuz unless the live room closed at a certain point in the evening. But that would suck cuz of the time change. 800 club is 11:00 p.m. here in Ohio.. and that's nothing compared to the time diff you got... 6 hours if I remember correctly. Great idea with some wrinkles to iron out.

Well doesn't that just suck. Used to be able to post a link to search results and it would give you just that. This new method is keyed to the server by search id and does not hold up indefinitely. Sorry...bad link. But you can still search via the terms on your own dime.

And then you'll see all the threads that have already been started. No, this isn't the first time the suggestion has been made. As Sky said, go back through the debates we've already had and see what you think then.

There are a few problems with chat rooms:

1. Very hard to censor - granted the site itself runs on a PG-13 to a R rating. Anything thats affiliated with RCNT needs to have some kind of censorship by myself and the rest of the RCNT Team.

2. Unless its intergrated into the site, it now becomes an issue of who uses that software? who knows how to use it? and will it even run on their system? Do members now have to have two different logins? So on and so on.

3. Chat rooms can also steal from the forum. Being the chat room is real time what is said is only shown to those that is currently in the chatroom, and even then only for a short time. So any good info will be missed by a great deal of members, along with that there is no way to go back and do a search for the info. When its gone, its gone for good. With a forum its there until the database kills over.

While I do enjoy the chats with members, either one on one or in a chat room. I dont see this feature being added to RCNT anytime soon.

However there has been a RCNT chat room via AIM, this is started by someone else. If you would like to start your own R/C Chat room then by all means do so, I can not stop what you do on your own servers, but I will say RCNT will not be affiliated with any chat rooms anytime soon.

mIRC would be a cool place to start a room for RCNT but I don't know if a lot of people have it. The chatroom through AIM seems like a good idea but who knows. The only real problem that I can see with the chatroom is the content not being recorded into the forum. You can produce a bot of some sort to censor it, if it was a computer based program the software wouldn't need to be fancy but just very simple.

I'm just thinking out loud here. Maybe we should start one in AIM or something...

this would be sweet...... i have mirc...... and I've seen scripts on sites were even if you dont have it theres a applet that you can use

Yeah, mIRC would be good because the mods can get some bots that censor the forum and stuff like that. But there is still thr problem with the forum thingy. Where the people that talk in the room would only be members and it would take away from anyone not in the room. But it'd still be fun.
