This build better get back on track or I'm going to start having withdrawals šŸ¤Ŗ
So is this ā€œProā€ (youā€™ve bumped your head-harrrrd šŸ˜‚) builder!! It looks like those rack bearing retainer sleeves are supposed to arrive via USPS today!!! šŸ¤© Also something ELSE already has, and I am freakin STOKED. šŸ˜

FINALLYā€¦..

Back at it..šŸ˜Ž

IMG_7829.webp

Alright-so weā€™re back, like a vertebraeā€¦šŸ˜‚

So these are what ALL of my other Tekno kits included-but not this one.. As @RustyUs and myself agree; theyā€™re probably alright, but I just canā€™t do it.. A few days behind the proverbial 8-ball, so what else is new lol..

IMG_7830.webp

Get started with assembling the steering links.. T-Workā€™s Titanium turnbuckles, and reaming the ends. I DO apply a spot of Associatedā€™s Green Slime here. Steering links see probably twice as much adjustment depending on various track conditions, and I donā€™t want to tear up the much smaller rod ends-as compared to my camber links..

IMG_7831.webp
IMG_7832.webp

Everyone hates doing diffs, turnbuckles, and shocks-but those are all my favorite parts to build in every kit I do.. This guy right here is likely my least favorite. Itā€™s not really a pain in the balls, just kinda sucks to have to build I guess? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜‚

IMG_7833.webp

A spot of Green Slime on the retaining nuy O-ring for good measure.. Also Tekno is the ONLY manufacturer Iā€™ve ever ran that does not offer an aluminum servo saver arm.. Iā€™ve yet to break their plastic one. Never seen anyone else have a failure out of theirs either..

IMG_7834.webp
IMG_7835.webp

FWIW-I did smear it all over prior to install.

IMG_7836.webp
IMG_7837.webp

Just a mock-up so you guys can see before I apply loctite paste via a chopped toothpick exactly where I want it.

Just a lilā€™ dip to getcha started..

IMG_7840.webp

I donā€™t go crazy here, just donā€™t want it all over the place, or consequently mixing with the O-ring grease..

IMG_7841.webp

Tekno calls for going all the way to coil bind here, then backing off (2) full turns. Iā€™m no Pro driver, and like my servoā€™s, so I back it off another half turn.

IMG_7842.webp
IMG_7843.webp
IMG_7844.webp

Finally ready for the Ackerman plate. I suppose I couldā€™ve done up to this point while I waited on my bearing sleeve retaining nuts to arrive, but it didnā€™t take 25min to get to this portion, sooooooā€¦šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

IMG_7845.webp

The solution to the reason for this last 3day delay.. Avid Hybrid bearings installed, of course-and more Tonyā€™s Screws..

IMG_7846.webp
IMG_7848.webp

Make tighten!!!! šŸ˜œšŸ¤£

IMG_7849.webp
IMG_7850.webp

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I can sleep at night again with aluminum in there..šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜…

IMG_7851.webp
IMG_7852.webp

Shim stack for bumpsteer setting.. Again-going with the manual setup, and Iā€™ll make changes as I see fit.

IMG_7853.webp
IMG_7854.webp

Yeahā€¦ so, Iā€™m not excited about this.. Time to pull my usual anal retentive BS, and prepare to unfaaack this abortion.. We got this..

IMG_7855.webp

The plan.. Convert to flatheads and countersunk washers, and invert the entire party.

IMG_7857.webp

Because this is ā€œless than idealā€ IMO, and just flat out looks like freakinā€™ homemade shoes. šŸ™„šŸ¤®

IMG_7858.webp

Comparison/mock-up.. MUCH more gooder.

IMG_7859.webp

Howeverā€¦. Ugggh.. Dammiiit.. šŸ˜…

IMG_7861.webp

The OG, and the new kid on the block.. Hmmm.. šŸ¤”

IMG_7862.webp

Next upā€¦ Gonna need a haircut for sure, but itā€™s happninā€™ now.. Nuthinā€™ to it.. Measured three times with the olā€™ Mitutoyoā€™s, and ran a sacrificial nyloc over it as a guide for where Iā€™m making the chop, as well as to clean up any burrs as I remove it. Iā€™ll flip my cutoff wheel after, and dress the end accordingly.

IMG_7863.webp

The OG, the new kid, and the audible..šŸ˜Ž

IMG_7864.webp
IMG_7865.webp
IMG_7867.webp

Not too shabby for an old guy..šŸ˜œ

IMG_7868.webp

Post surgery, prior to rehab with some dressing of the end with the back side of my cutoff wheel..

IMG_7869.webp

Cleaned up, and ready to install. OG for reference.. Yeahhhhhhh, buddy. šŸ¤˜

IMG_7870.webp

ā€œWould ya just look at it?!?ā€ā€¦ šŸ¤£

Iā€™m plenty happy with the results. Letā€™s wrap it up, and check it out assembled..

IMG_7871.webp

Yasssssssss. Now THAT is gonna be a winner.

IMG_7872.webp

I mean cā€™mon.. Just better, thatā€™s all there is to it.. Much happier with that.

IMG_7873.webp

Duuuuuuuuuudeā€¦ Well worth the trouble IMO. šŸ¤˜

IMG_7874.webp
IMG_7875.webp

Yeah-you too losers can kick rocks! Outta here!!! šŸ™„

IMG_7877.webp

New bag time FINALLY-jeeeeezus..

IMG_7878.webp

Itā€™s about to get goooooood boys.. šŸ¤©

IMG_7879.webp

Steering postsā€¦ I know what that meansā€¦šŸ˜Ž

I actually spaced out for about 9sec, and located a couple m4x12ā€™s.. I caught it quick, but I donā€™t hide shiit if I screw up.. Itā€™s real life yā€™all.. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø Wiped em clean, and loctiteā€™d the proper m4x10ā€™s..

IMG_7884.webp

As with most top tier, race grade 1/8 buggy, and truggy kits-the steering posts are keyed into the pocket milling of the 7075 chassis. I swear though-the Tekno joints are just ULTRA pimp-O-licious in my humble opinion..šŸ¤¤ A good amount of Loctite 248 paste, and put some pretty serious asss into it. I canā€™t count how many times Iā€™ve seen other builders/racers/builders have these back off.. That will absolutely destroy your chassis at a minimum. Then you get to fight with them everytime you tear down for routine maintenance until you buy a $100+ chassis because you were an idiot.. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜…

Oooooooooo baby!!!!! NitroPro or NOTHING!!!!1!!!1!1!1!1!!!1 šŸ¤©šŸ¤£

Absolutely KILLER performance, and hands down, the best warranty in the bidnesss..

IMG_7889.webp

Performance.. And unlike most servo manufacturers; these numbers arenā€™t inflated, exaggerated, or a flat out LIE..šŸ™„

IMG_7890.webp
IMG_7891.webp

Peep that warranty yā€™allā€¦ šŸ˜Ž

IMG_7893.webp

And not a servo on the planet that looks this good in my bookā€¦šŸ˜ˆ

Nixā€™d the socket head cap screws, and M3 steel flat washers from the kit in favor of Tonyā€™s flatheads, and some killer gloss black countersunk washers from Team Brood. Theyā€™re big in the 1/10 carpet stuff.

IMG_7900.webp

I am the last of a dying breed for sure.. As I mentioned before-I actually like my servoā€™s, and I still run the servo grommets. These locators are just shy of 2mm tall, and lock your servo in place when not running the grommets. You CAN just put the gorilla grip on your driver, and itā€™d be fine, but yā€™all know the dealio.. Letā€™s take care of this shiit too-why not..šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜…

IMG_7901.webp
IMG_7902.webp

I could use a file here, but Iā€™ve got a steady hand, and Iā€™ve been doing this kind of shiit in my line of work for decades.. Honestly feel like Iā€™ve got a better chance of tearing it up, or leaving terrible marks with a small file than my dremel, and death wheel..

IMG_7903.webp

Like brand new money..šŸ¤˜

IMG_7904.webp

Servo tray, and front chassis brace are Siamese twins. Works killer too. Aluminum braces are for 20yr old designs, and heavy AF RTRā€™s with ridiculous batteries.

IMG_7909.webp

Iā€™m definitely digginā€™ seeing it come together.. I think itā€™s really easy to go overboard with colored poop everywhere.. Yeah-it may match, but it can get too ā€œbusyā€ for my taste.. Iā€™ve been mixing up the gloss black Team Brood washers where I want it ā€œall businessā€, and just a bit of well placed ā€œpopā€ from the Ultimate Racing blue anodized countersunk washers in very specific locations. Same with the two blue nuts in the upper wing mount location. Iā€™m very happy with the steel black coated nuts in the bottom wing mount location. Plusā€™s theyā€™re steel-and I much prefer to have SOME steel holding that thing secure. There will still be plenty of blue-I can assure you of that.. šŸ˜Ž

IMG_7910.webp

Steering top plate, and front body mount..

IMG_7911.webp

A bit of Loctite for the two M4ā€™s that go into the upper portion of the CNC steering posts..

IMG_7912.webp
IMG_7913.webp

Steering links mating up with the necessary steel flat washers to the carbon fiber steering plates.

IMG_7914.webp

Yeah buddyā€¦. šŸ¤¤

IMG_7915.webp

Rear clip going in finally.. We are out here!!! šŸ˜œ

IMG_7917.webp
IMG_7918.webp

Threadlocker for the redundant fasteners in the C block. Love they do this..

IMG_7919.webp

Rear clip almost buttoned up with the last fastener into the C block..

IMG_7920.webp

Mack daddy rear chassis brace.. A LOT of guys donā€™t run this in low traction situations, blown out tracks, etc.. Yeah-nah; Iā€™m not that guy.. I swapped out the kit socket head cap screw for the diffcase brace receiver, and am running another flathead from Tonyā€™s, along with an Ultimate Racing blue countersunk washers to set it off just the right amount. I think my other vehicles look killer with this setup, so been lookinā€™ forward to doing it on this nitro buggy..šŸ¤©

IMG_7921.webp
IMG_7922.webp

Looooooove itā€¦ šŸ¤¤

IMG_7923.webp

A pair of M4ā€™s from the bottom, and the rear clip is donezo..

Helllllllyeahā€¦ More to follow, but Iā€™m glad it is finally starting to at least LOOK like Iā€™m making some decent progress with it..

The majority of the time tonight was spent modificatinā€™ random stuff that most folks either wouldnā€™t care about, or just wouldnā€™t think to fool with.. I like doing that kind of stuff if I see something that I feel like thereā€™s a better way to do IMO..

Super stoked with it thus far, and itā€™s only gonna get better. Itā€™s for sure gonna come together quick, fast, and in a big dammiit hurry from here on out now.. We are in the short rows with this one fosho boys.. Thanks for all the interest, comments, kind words, and just simply followinā€™ along through my nonsense. Itā€™s appreciated, and hope it helps out with your own badasss builds! šŸ»šŸ¤˜

Now Iā€™m taking my old asss to bed-to hell with ice cream at 6:15am.. šŸ˜…

Excellent man! That's a beautiful build. Blue paste is the stuff! I didn't know that about the steering post pockets. Great details! I do the same thing- digital calipers- check- custom cut stuff. šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ‘
