Well the new engine for my T-Maxx arrived today. It is an OS .15 CV-RX. I have a few questions. First what the heck is this ? Is this some type of adapter that some RC's need? My next question is how do I go about cutting the crank? I would like to start the break-in process tomorrow. I will be using the stock parts off of my old engine for the time being. TIA.

EDIT: Here is a picture of the new engine.

First off, that thing is a prop washer (at least I think that's what it's called). Usually you see them on aircraft engines. It's ribbed (for HER pleasure...hehehehe) to hold the propeller. You don't need it. Just set it aside.

To cut the crank, first strip the clutch, flywheel and collet off the old TRX .15. Then measure the length of the crank that's sticking out of the front bearing. Then measure the same distance on the OS. I marked that length with a round of masking tape. Then put the engine in a Ziploc bag that's big enough. Poke ONLY the crank through the plastic. Then take your Dremel with a cutoff wheel (fiber reinforced, preferably) and cut at the tape. Go slow. Take breaks so the crank doesn't heat up too much. Once your through, just take care of any burrs that may be on the crank and then reinstall all the clutch parts just the way they came off the old engine...

If your unsure of the length to cut, start long, fit everything up and if you need to cut more off do it again.

:alarm:Its better to cut several times to long then once to short.:alarm:

Do you think I should run up to the hardware store and buy a nut that will fit the shaft? So when I cut it off it will remake the threads? Or shouldn't I have to worry about that.

You can give it a try if you want but I believe the nut will be to thick. I have never had an issue with messing the threads up.
I usually clean them up a but with a stone so I wont cut my finger.

You can buy what they call a cut nut at the hobby shop, get the AE one it will give you the perfect length for the cut and when you back it off it will straighten out the threads. This is how I did it when I installed the OS in my T.

Thanks for all of the info. Sadly I was called into work so I had to put the engine on the back burner for a few more hours. I will be only 10 mintues away from my LHS though. I think I might stop by to see if they have that cut off nut. I know I need to get some new fuel tubing.
