Hey

I'm new to the RC nitro field in general. Here's my problem, I bought a new Hobby Craft Canada Predator Truck about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday i ran about a tank of fuel through it and then came back inside to eat lunch. I went back out to run the truck again when i began to hear a loud whining noise coming from what i thought to be the rear differential whenever I gave it enough gas to move. Could someone tell me what could be wrong, and a couple pointers on how to fix it?

Thanks

Hmm... well, I don't own that truck, and I'd be REALLY suprised if anyone else did here either.
Try turning your rear wheels over by hand and see if anything is out of the ordinary. Do you still hear the noise?
What kind of "whining" noise? Like metal to metal, or like a whistle from air? Does it make this noise when it's running, or just when it's sitting there at idle?

Woops, sorry, I should have read your post more carefully. "whenever I gave it enough gas to move". Sorry about that.
Also then, check your spur gear. If you don't know what the spur gear is, it's the big gear that the clutch bell from your engine turns. Make sure your gear mesh is set correctly. To do this, loosed up your engine mount screws, then (if you have a plastic spur gear) take a piece of notebook paper and put it between your spur gear and your clutch bell. Then press your engine and clutch bell tightly together with your spur gear and tighten down your engine mount screws. Last, roll your spur gear around so the paper will come out. If you have a steel spur gear, instead of paper, use a plastic bag that you'd get your rc parts from.

Thanks for the advise,

could it be that i've stripped some of the gears inside the differential??? just wondering cuz it tends not to be going as fast at a similar throttle and thats what a couple of my friends have said it might be..

yes it is possible that you stripped the rear diff gears. The best way to test this is to hold the rc on the ground (don't let it move). You're going to need a friend to give it gas. If only the front wheels turn (4wd right?) and the back wheels do not move, then yes the rear diff is stripped.

I once had my clutch bell rubbing on my breaks. That produced a whining or whisteling noise.

It's kind of hard on this end to diagnose the problem with out being able to see it and hear it. Your best bet to figure out the problem is to just start taking it apart. You learn quick that way too. ;)

Good Luck with it and welcome to the site.

thanks a lot guys, it turned out to be the differential i think...cuz i took it apart and didnt find anything out of the ordinary but when i put it back together after cleaning it, it ran perfectly...however, one more problem...today when i went out to test it my radio kept doing weird things like braking for no reason and giving it excess gas and the throttle had significantly less response...just wondering if its the actual radio or if it was just some random frequency that was screwing with it??

thanks again

I've had that happen to me before.

Sometimes, it's a result of a cheap AM radio and outside interference. I notice with my AM radios, for example, that the radio will go nuts when I put the igniter on the glow plug.

I did have it happen one time to me with my FM radio. That was a result of water getting into the battery box (and hence into the reciever). I ended up buying a new reciever. :(

You will also have problems if you run the truck too far away from the transmitter too.

You could have low batteries in the reciever pack.

If you have damaged your receiver with water, you can do a search on the site and look for "water proofing". We've talked about it a lot.

thanks man,

it actually turned out to be low batteries. i'll look into water proofing though...it sounds like a money saver..

take it easy

hey,

ya I'm back with more problems, k this car doesn't seem to be running properly no matter what i do...I've now broken it in, but whenever i brake hard after high throttle it wants to stall...the rpms just drop suddenly...now sometimes i can react fast enough to give it throttle but most of the time it just stalls....what's up here?????

thanks

Just when you apply the brakes right? Sounds like the idle screw. Just a minor adjustment and it'll fix it right up. It's usually a little screw next to the opening of the air filter.. Just give it like a little clockwise turn and try that. I usually pull the carb open, then adjust it. Less tension on that little screw because that screw strips easily. Good luck...

hey,

i already have adjusted the idle stop screw to a perfect spot...any more and the clutch begins to grip...any less it stalls, so that shouldnt be the problem.... could it be that the clutch is staying gripping for too long? as in its not releasing properly as i let off the throttle....causing resistance on the engine?

thanks for the input tho..ill still give it a go
