So here is the story.
I’m out walking the dog and two guys pull up in a van (Warning) and ask if I'm interested in getting some high end audio equipment. They must have seen me coming. They open up the back and have some large floor standing speakers. They show me a magazine with a full page article and the same speakers listing for 2800.00 per set. They then go into a story that… Blah-blah… on how they got them and ask me to make an offer. I countered with what do you want. We go back and forth and when all was said and done I so happened to have 300.00 cash on me. They moaned and groaned but took it. I know own a set of speakers.

I go back to the office and start to research them. Not much can be found but there are some of the same for sale but close to nothing to be found but a scam alert. The scam is that they are low end speakers. They may or may not be worth what I paid. The people who they get the speakers from created the magazine that the article is in and made up a ridicules price to aid in selling them to people just like me.

I’m now the proud owner of a pair of low end speakers that I never would have purchased. Ill hook them up tonight and see if all is not lost. I'm looking at it as a lesson well learned AGAIN!!! LMAO @ me.

Speakers are Theater Logic T2450 Beware…….

Well if nothing else you can always put good speakers in them, its not like you dont have the cases now

no laughter, only sorrow, been there done that. but I took the ones they were showing me instead of the ones "nib" that were even worse.I got crap instead of really crap, so... right there with ya.

As I always say...There is an ass for every seat!..

At least you got something. I have seen that scam done where they show you some nice equipment, then sell you sealed boxes, ahhhh but whats in the boxes? Bricks!

Wanna buy a real nice only broken in vintage rc, never raced, you've seen the pics, lol.

All kidding aside, sorry to hear you got taken.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO not the white van guys!! This scam is well known on avsforums. They are also sold under the name Dogg Audio. I've even seen them on ebay.

Sorry to hear you got ripped. :(
You can always hook them up to a cheap amp in the garage and have audio out there.

We have the "White Van" guys out on the island too... These guys will come up to your truck at a red light and act like there selling a gold brick for a buck... There must be a huge company employing these guys around the country...

they are also on jamacia ave. but its a black van. the guy will follow you into a store and talk to you as you leave. tried it on me twice. this guy tried to sell me a hallow lap top. he said it was new and would sell it to me for a nice deal. the second time it was a stolen psp and a ipod video. that time i also most baught the ipod. good thing i usually dont carry alot of money on me.

dude, that sux. Personally, I probably would have assumed it was stolen and brushed him off.

I'm with Lessen..^^^I would have thought the same thing worked hard at brushing him off lol But that does bite the big one!

Back in the day... It was common to see the "White Van Guys" around town now and again selling all kinds of stuff. Typically they were speakers but not always. Some of the real CROOKS never wanted to open boxes or open opened them enough to show you the front of the item but never took it out of the box making up a story about how they are in a hurry and dont want to get caught. Or they would have ONE open that they would SHOW you and 10 other boxes looking very brandie new that they would try to SELL you. You were not allowed to buy their "floor model".

Anyway, those guys were the scam artists trying to sell bricks in boxes. But the most common "White Van Guys" were the ones with the real high end equipment. Cerwin Vega, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Klipsch, McClintosh(sp) and that was when you would see then pop the back door open and immediatly 30 people would swarm the van then they would be gone in 20 min. Thos were the best deals because you KNEW everything was hot, everything was "real", and they would take almost any reasonable price. I got a $500 Alpine head unit at the time for $100. Some other guys sold off a pair or HUGE Cerwin Vega Speakers for $200 (retail was like $500 each cause a friend had just bought a set) Too bad I dont see those guys around any more, I could use some stuff!!!!

Theater Logic T2450 :whack:

These POS are made in China in a sweat shop to be sold directly in white vans,by white van con artists. The scam is old as the white van itself !

They prey on people who have little audio knowledge and always play the losing card,in reality these pieces of crap are not even worth $300.

As for $300 you can get a pair of smallish but way better Paradigm Mini Monitors and stands.

I was once aproached by scumbags in a white van, played dub and then told them I was only interested to purchase Dynaudio Contour 3.3 if they had them, for below a grand. :devious: They had no clue so I started my tech talk and they did not even try further.

What were you doing walking the dog with $300 cash on you?:smoke:

Reminds me of an old Cheeh & Chong tape.

"Wanna buy a watch, I knows you ain't got a watch. Cause if you had a watch, you'd know it was night-time!" And night-time ain't no time to be in this here neighborhood!"

Sorry you got ripped Ed. Put em in your shop or something.

We don't have the little white van selling high end audio equipment here...
It's a small pickup selling steaks. Think I would rather loose $300 on a set of speakers than buy ribeyes out of the back of a little truck...

holy crap it happend to me the extact same way you said it....but i didnt have any cash on me so i got away, however i did get screwed over on some fake jewelry the same way, and dont fall for the fake versachi leather jackets,i was at burger king the dude pulls up told me he was at a convention for versachi and they let him keep some samples he goes on about telling me how they are 2000.00 jackets...i knew already it was a scam so i told him to hold on ny partner was interested i went in my truck and call the cops... they aressted him in the parking lot..i told him my friend was on his way...haha it was the coppers....freaking scammers i hate'em

The white van guys around here have moved on from speakers to flat panel TV's They are selling NIB, wrapped in bubble wrap OVEN DOORS!
