how do i tune my T-Maxx 3.3 so it's at maximum performance???

i just put in a brand new Traxxas 3.3 in it and I'm having problems with the idle and tuning.

Well hopefully you did the break in process that traxxas tells you to do in the manual. If so you'll start by tuning the high end needle first. If it's about 60 degrees f outside and you're using 20% fuel turn the needle to 4 and a half turns out, there's a table in the manual that says how to adjust for outdoor conditions. A temp guage will be handy too but MAINLY to make sure it's not overheating. Now after a good warm up run it up and down a smooth road at full throttle 3 or 4 times. Should be plenty of blue smoke. Turn the high needle in 1/8 turn. Do that same thing repeatedly until the engine no longer seems to make more power. Then richen it 1/8 turn. Now it should be around 230-260 degrees or so that's ideal for a 3.3. Make sure you drive the same way over and over again in between tuning, a perfectly tuned engine will vary greatly in temp depending on how you drive it. Now make sure your carb slide has a 1 mm gap at the fully closed position. Then make sure your low needle is just a hair out from flush. Get it up to temp and drive it around a little. This can be tricky because you will lose low end response if it's too rich OR if it's too lean. Do a pinch test.....pinch the fuel line, it should shut off in about 3 seconds. If it shuts off sooner, richen the needle, later, lean it....about 1/8 turn or less. That'll get you close just do the pinch test and watch for good throttle response and if the motor isn't hurt it should idle fine.
