Wasn't sure whether to put this in the electric forum or here but guess here's good.
My HBX16889 brushless truck turned up unexpectedly early today. It's my first 'proper' RC car and I'm amazed at how quick it is, even on my grass which could do with a cut. Think I'll be leaving the throttle trim at halfway for a while yet!
Hopefully the oil shocks will arrive soon.

Grats on the new toy.

Just note: the throttle trim isn't to make it faster. It's to adjust the neutral position of the trigger. It's reslly only useful for nitro engine equipped RC's to set your idle. If you move that from zero in an electric RC, your ESC in your truck will likely go into failsafe and not power on. It needs to stay at zero when powering on your RC. If it did happen to power on with the throttle trim anywhere but zero, your truck will take off on you as soon as you power it on.

I don't think it works like that on this one. It's specifically labelled as a speed control and talks about it in the surprisingly good manual (no Chinglish). Minimum is 40% power. I can't imagine what damage a 5 year old could do with it turned up to full!
Just finished gaffer taping the body shell and putting the stickers on like a big kid 😂

Oh ok. That's not a trim knob then. You should have a separate knob in there for throttle trim in that case.

No, just steering trim, dual rate and speed.
These trucks are really aimed at the beginner (like me!) and fall somewhere between toy and hobby grade I think. I'm genuinely impressed with what you get for the price though. This was just over £70 ($92) with 2 Li-ion batteries. I dread to think what it would be like on Li-po.

When you're ready to step it up a bit, check out the Arrma Grom's. They have been getting a lot of praise from folks here that have bought them. They come with everything needed to run them as well.

I can't afford to get too invested in another hobby! Airguns is my main one and it's a bit expensive.
The Arrma looks like a step up in quality though and not stupidly priced like some I've seen. I'd be scared to take something worth hundreds out in case I broke it!

You can't break anything on the SCX24 that you can't find a replacement or upgrade for. But yeah, hopping up SCX24's can get very pricey. But it's so much fun!

All the spares are available for the HBX too. I've already ordered some oil shocks & oil, spare ring and pinion gears and front and rear driveshafts. Still well under £100 all in which is what I'd budgeted for. Just need to get the kids off their phones now to have a go 🙄

Took this out for a first proper bash in some open space yesterday. Man this thing is crazy fast, even on not particularly short grass. After doing numerous cartwheels and flips there's not even a scratch on it. I can't believe how tough it is, especially given the low price.
I'm now getting used to keeping an eye out for dogs who think it's a rabbit and want to catch it!
Time to raid the scrap wood pile to make a ramp...

I'm a fan of hbx line, one of the only ones on here lol, love it, you make any videos of it?
No, but I will next time if I can move the camera quick enough! It's probably not that fast if you're a seasoned racer but 30mph in something so small feels like a lot more, especially when you're only used to toys

aint that the truth! the hbx wass my first rc, since then I've made sooooo many mistakes and learned a lot, I'm finally confident enough to start buying the bigger more badass rc's, but swear i still drive the hbx just as much as the others combined lol. they are rippers. just wish they had the product support the name brands have

Yeah, it's my first proper RC car too. The sound makes it seem even faster!
You're brave running it in the street. I think I'd end up going under a car with my driving

i have many times lol, in one video you can hear the crunch of me hitting a parked car at full speed. broke 2 parts replaced em and is on the road again. and again. and again lol i break it often
that sound was an ess dual speaker, can program lots of different vehicle sounds and it wires into your esc so it reacts to your throttle. their pretty cool but after a little while its annoying lol.
also I'm lazy as can be when it comes to yard work and my grass stays too tall to drive thru sadly.. ( my neighbors dont like me very much)
