I just got a new RS4-3 Evo and finally had the chance to start the breakin process. Before breakin, I swapped out for an Futaba FM reciever so that I can add it to the collection I have on one controller. I also swapped out the primer tank for a regular racing tank without the primer. After going over every screw making sure things are tight and secure as well as just checking things out since this is my first on road R/C, today I started it up.
Break in process was hell to begin with. I have never dealt with a rotary carb before. Starting it up for the first time was no problem. Getting it to stay running even at idle was hell. I do about 5 tanks with the car raised on a block which creates less stress on the clutch and engine during breakin since the wheels are raised off the ground and spinning freely. The factory needle settings just couldn't keep it running so I had to experiment a bit. I really don't like the way the rotary carb works especially how the idle screw makes adjustments. After about an hour of fiddling with the needles, I got it running fine to allow me to just proceed with a decent break in process. It's pretty much running very rich right now and I think I will continue to run it on the rich side with small lean adjustments per tank there after for performance. Other than that, it now cranks over real quick, spits some fuel out since it's rich for now and I am pretty happy with my first touring car even though it can't do what my Savage and Tmaxx can do.
