Please dont say aluminum a-arms/knuckles............I did that to my Revo;-it looks nice but now I hate the way it handles bumps and jumps from the ridiculously extra weight not to mention that it now has a broken front bulkhead, bent 3 shocks and killed two rims with tires doing jumps because of the extra weight..... RPM stuff can't be used with the longer travel suspension pivots without binding up so now I'm going to put it back to original specs and stock up on a-arms....

no no....i ordered a screw kit....a set of wheels and tires for some on road fun...a 3 shoe clutch conversion....some glo plugs..and some other odds and ends just for maintaince...i was looking at the alloy a-arms but thought it would change the roll center....someone on here had a whole spare susuension kit (OEM) that i just got - so if i break stuff i have spares...

Just got it this minute!!

looks in even better shape than i thought..guy even left batteries in it! starter works great right away....and he included a 40 tooth spurr gear for it if i wanted..really sweet...

looks like a great rig man . .congrats on the find,
and as far as the spur gear goes the 40t will lower ur top end but increase ur acceleration.
a good rule of thumb is
big clutchbell small spur gear=top end
small clutchbell big spur gear=acceleration

yeah i'm not gonna change the spur gear..no desire too....i've messed with gearing in my past cars to know it ends up giving you a hassle of some sort...the truck looks barely used. .a scuff on the head form a roll over..but the rig is clean as heck under the body...tonight i'll take it out for a test run...looking forward to seeing how it runs...

I'm running 15 cb/40 spur on one of my revos and could barely get the mesh to line up...Had to get a pair of chanel locks to squeeze the mount in place while I tightened but man that thing takes off...

Nice looking truck.. Looks like a #5308 but I didn't know they used that color on the new bodies...

i think it is a 5308 - it has only one steering servo but has the position for a 2nd...not sure if the radio box is the bigger one or not..it came with a sweet Futaba 2 channel radio..not the original one..so no 3 channel system to try...so not sure really..

the box for the throtle servo is not the one from the 5308.. Its larger to make room for the reverse servo... Also has the older pipe. I think it may be a modded 5309 but it has all the mods you would want to do...
Forward only, steering mod , smaller radio box... Either that or he is using an old body and servo box and pipe...

Nice looking truck either way...

ok..i need some help..here are a few more pics....to make sure what i have..i see linkage that i think was for reverse.....and what is the steering mod? it has one servo on the right side for the steering...there are 2 reciever type of wires that lead no where..and 3 cut servo wires....so maybe this has been modded for no reverse..but the linkage seems ot still be there..and when i pull the shaft out it seem to make a click noise....is reverse an issue on these? one servo enough to steer this beast? please look at the pics nad tell me what you guys think..sorry - crappy camera phone pics..all i have at work..

Yeah, It's been modded...
The steering mod was just changing from two servos to one but you will want to take a look at that servo and see if he upgraded it...
I don't know much about the FOC( forward only conversion ) but Thats most likely what you extra wires are coming from.. The removed steering servo, The servo for revers , And the opti drive sensor that tells it when to shift from forward to rev....

Maybe someone else will chime in on the conversion but it looks like thats whats goin on..
Alot of people remove the opti sensor and revers because of shifting problems. The conversion is said to give your power but will deffinatley cut down on headaches...

It is a model #5309... Both of mine are 5309's.

i asked the guy and he said it was the optidrvie system he removed to run the truck at the track....can another steering servo be hoked up and run in parallel to make the steering better? i don't think he upgraded the servo...i'm gonna set the truck up tonight and see how it is...he has the steering setup to go right only a little and a lot to the left...if just the optidrvie was unplugged..what is needed ot make it go reverse or should i just forget about it alltogether?

We will need a picture of the steering horn to see if he changed anything under the chasis... depending on what he did , you would need another servo to set it back up for 2 but you may be cheaper and better off just upgrading the servo...

Dude, I hate to say it but it looks as if he has jerry rigged the FOC... Thats not going to be good...
I would definatley finish the conversion before I did any driving... You may bump it out of gear and really wreck the tranny... If you wanted reverse you would need the mini servo, and linkage to reconect it...But with out the optidrive sensor, you can shift before you come to a full stop and trash you tranny...

The optidrive won't let you shift until you come to a stop but some people do run without it... You just have to be careful...

As I said before , I have not done the FOC or seen it first hand but looking at some pics thats what apears to have went on...

If you don't mind me asking, How much did you spend??? You can pm me if you like... It just seems that the guy wasn't being completley upfront with you...

so should it find a way to hold the reverse pin into the tranny and then just hope for the best? the 2nd side arm for the steering is still there..what i would need it looks like is a servo..and the linkage arm....plus the hardware..not too much..but if an upgraded one side servo is enough i may just do that....i got it for $275 shipped...

how about this....if i start it up at idle..and then pull the reverse engagment arm out..and then give it a touch of throttle and it goes in reverse is that a good test and a way to not wreck anything?

ok..i'm pretty impressed...i did some adjustments and fixes before i took out the used Revo i got today - the steering needed to be adjusted - throttle return adjusted - a nut and bolt here and there..charge the batteries in the reciever....put in some gas..a new battery for the starter unit..and 10 seconds it was running....for a .20 it's pretty darn powerful and fast! and the one steering servo seemed to be enough to turn this beast after my tuning.....i'm diggin it already! just have to adjust the shift points and wait for some new parts to shpw up and i'm bashin it! thanks for all the help guys...i'll be asking more questions for sure!

Dan

one way you can prevent it from going into reverse is to do what i did till i get my new servo, i left the linkage on and put a screw through the servo horn and put it in one of the mount holes for the servo and it holds the pin in the tranny real tight and i have jumped, rolled and bashed the hell out of mine since my servo went out and i haven't had a problem

humm...i'd have to make my own little link and ball cup for that but it is not a bad idea at all..i have some spare servo horns laying around to do this...humm....hummm.....i zip tied the spring bar into the tranny but realized i was engaging the brake by doing that so i took it off....but your idea is a pretty darn good one...

so here is a question - this truck has like 4 feet of fuel tubing from the tank to the motor :) ..i'm assuming to add some extra fuel capacity....with all my nitro cars i try to cut the fuel tubing to a minimum to save space and weigh and have less line to mess with...i'm assuming ok to do with this truck too? I have a primer and a fuel filter on the way for it...it doesn't have one currently...

yeah its fine just dont' make it too short for 2 reasons
1. If the truck rolls over and lands on it lid and stays there the extra fuel in the longer line will keep it running till it gets flipped back over
2. If the line is too short it could pop off of the nipple on the carb, at least thats whathappened to me,

My fuel line looks like 1 solid "S" going from my tank to my carb, and i have had no issues since

ok perfect...my line loops around like 4 times..so i think it is way too long...when i get my primer and filter i'll trim it down a bunch...
