I have a RTR 3 that I pretty much converted to a Type SS. Iwant to try out foam tires but is it really worth forking over cash? Will it help me in handling, speed , or anything? Or is it just all hype?

Foam tires work well on a prepared track.
If your running in a parking-lot that hasn't been swept and sprayed with soda look for something else.

do I have to adjust my shocks or should buy slicks? I was thinking of buyibg some wide slicks rom HPI. My brother has a ntrc3 and wants to go foam too. Thanks FastEddy:banana:

I picked up some outlaw EFRA foams and am not turning back. I dropped some serious cash on belted rubber, hpi hard foam inserts, rims and at the end of the day had tires good for only a couple tanks.

The EFRA tires I run handled GREAT in a parking lot. I stuck to the ground like a wet dream! Keep some odorless CA on hand in the event you roll your car and see a tear begin on the tire. Very easy fix. Yes, foams will eventually chunk out, BUT, so far they have lasted longer and DEFINATELY stick better. I ran fatter ones in the back than I did in the front. Thus, the outlaw class.

They also usually come prebalanced. Something I can't do at home.

And as long as you dont have any major sideways impacts with the earth you should tear the tires apart.

Lastly, the one thing I have learned about on-road, not matter what, you will spend money on tires. Its a regular maintenance item. This is the one thing that best matches the real 1:1 touring cars.

If you are racing, buy the foams. They dont last long so only use them for racing if you bash also. To get the most from your foams, you should get a tire truer. What happens is, after a good run and depending on your suspension set up, you wheels will start to funnel. The inside diameter of the wheel will ware faster than the outside. A tire truer works like a lathe and will even out the wheel. You may have to adjust your ride hight if you get 26mm up front and 32mm in the rear.

If you just bash, I suggets you get BSR Net Touring tires. They come premounted and are the best for bashing. I even see people racing with them. They are like a foam tire capped with a rubber Kevlar net compound. They resemble a real 1:1 racing slick when they are done racing.
Quote These long lasting tires are designed for faster and larger tracks. BSR’s Net tires are designed and manufactured with BSR’s own Kevlar Net lining technology. This exclusive design prevents the tire from ballooning out at high speeds when the tire keeps its temperature.

The last really long, longer than the normal slick or treaded tire. They are more expensive, but they last a lot longer, and the perfomance alone pay for the product.

My 1cent.

Thanks mjime714 But where can i pick up a set?

At the link I posted. They say that they are out of stock, but I believe that they are available. You just got to email them and ask for it.

i agree with all.......the difference between a good 30shore foam, and a rubber tire is like the difference between night and day. However, if you are running on a rough asphalt surface, u will wear out a foam tire in less than one day! if you run on blacktop, like we do, then they will last for quite a while.

Try Jaco nitro shoes, but get them in a 40 or 42 shore, they still will stick 100 times as good as rubber, but will last a good amount of time too!

Thanks Nitroaddict! I am going to see if my LHS carries them. Mine Is Hobby People. I am finding that they really suck!

By the way can Someone explain to me what THE "SHORE" means:flaming:

Shore - is the rating of the compound of foam rubber used in the tire. the higher the number, the denser the foam and vice versa. Shore ratings will range from about 24 which is so soft, that it will grip like flypaper, but u will be rarely get more than 4 or 5 tanks of fuel through, before they wear out - all the way up to 44 shore rating, which is a very hard compound. These will last almost as long as rubber tires, but dont work very well for blacktop, or groomed racetrack surfaces. Great for parking lots though.
