RC Driving Style
Hi there.

I just bought my first on road car. It's a 1/10 Mugen MTX 3 with MR-12 engine.

I need advice on the body. I want the serpent 200mm lola body or any other nice looking body. Something decent. I am a noob when it comes to painting bodies. Can anyone help me out. No online websites carry pre-painted bodies so I'm stuck. Would you suggest me just buying the lola and spray painting it myself? I dont need anything fancy, a single solid color would do actully.

Thanks.

The MTX-3 is an excellent touring car. It's very popular with the racers using the high end models. With the members here on RCNT that are joining the "RCNT Team-East" the "more popular" models are the VoneRR (RatzoRC), Mugen MTX-3 (Team 17), R40 (Remy & Buncrana), Serpent 710 (sl0eg1n and myself). I would suggest asking Team17 about the Lola body style since he has the Mugen.

Since this is your first on-road touring car, take it easy on the throttle. That car will scream and speed is incredible. The handeling is just as crisp (with the right settings to the suspension and setup). Be careful with the braking since there is a front oneway in this car. You basically have no front brakes so it'll spin if you apply full brakes. Turn down your brakes to the point where it barely locks up. If you have anymore questions, which I am sure you will, feel free to ask.

Painting is not a problem.Just take your time with the masking and use light coats to avoid drips. Let each coat dry before adding another one.

I would just make sure that you don't have to get a new bumper and/or body mounts to use the Lola body style. Only reason I am saying that is becuase I ahve the Serpent and for me to use the Lola body, I would need an entirely different bumper and mounts.

btw ...

Welcome to RCNT!

First off, Welcome to the forum! I heard that car rips! For the body, there are many members on here who can custom paint a body for you... Or, if you just want to do a single coat, we will be glad to teach you how because that way is much cheaper and easier lol.

Damn Diver... everyone always beats me to it lol.

Thanks guys!

If someone could paint a body for me it would be nice.

Unles you think i'd be better off doing it myself...

Like I said I dont need anything fancy, a basic 1 color body would do me fine.

I just need some tips on exactly how to paint it. Would spray paint work?

Also concerning the Serpent Lola body... I'm thing of just buying the stock MTX3 body just to be on the safe side, if I can find it anywhere. Hopefully nitrohouse or mugenracing has it in stock.

Thanks....

I'm new here myself, and have just purchased a second hand MTX-2 pro spec with a new Nova Top TSR12S3 engine. All I can say about this car...if its your first one (was my first "real" gas car) listen to Driver...go very easy on the throttle. I didn't and ended up flipping the car over a fair few times on the first run... Cost me a bit on new parts :violin:

Enjoy the new car...I know I am

Ahem ... Ahem .... it's D-i-v-e-r not driver ....

Just remember, the car you have is considered to be a performer and that's what it will do. Lightning fast and agile. Don't get too caught up in the speed because the handeling is where she will show her true colors.

and save your pennies fo rthe big crash...cause iiiiiitttttssss goooonnnnaa HaAAApen!!!
unless you do EXACTLY as diver says....you got a monster fo ryour first nitro road car man....be careful...I had a serpent 705 and it was just too fast for what I do w/ my road cars...I like electric TCs and I set em up to drift......lot of fun when you get the hang of it and it helps w/ the buggy driving.....
Welcome to RCNT....

DON'T use regular spray paint it will chip off every time the body flexes....use a polycarbonate paint......if you go to your LHS or your online RC Shop you'll find tons of usable paint...you could do one solid color for your body in one can and one backing can...if you want the color u pick to be brighter back it w/ a white...darker use black.....black will also make it change color more often than not...white will keep it similar to the color on the can....

Uhhh the link I posted above was in fact polycarbonate paint.

I ordered the serpent lola body ( PRAYING IT WORKS)

Serpent Lola 200mm
Metal Red
Camel Yellow
Racing Green (Dark Green)

my bad the link didn't work for me and I saw Ace hardware in the link name.....DOOOOH!

oooo donuts and beer

Whoops...misread that one!!!

If u are planning to race, you will not be allowed to run with the lola body.

The MTX-3 doesn't have a specific made body. The most common bodies for racing are the Stratus, Mazda 6, & Alfa romero 200m lids. All the bodies can be purchased at rushrc.com

If u need any help or have questions let me know & I'll help ya out.

Here's my MTX-3 with the status lids:

Well, i'm not going to race it (yet)

When I do want to race i'll buy another body. I like the Audi TT

Can you tell me if the Lola will fit the mtx, I called Ace-hobbies and they said it would but i'm still unsure.

Thanks

Id say try painting yourself. its actually ALOT of fun. ( I got the painting itch just as bad as rcin'). Now since I like painting so much, I have like 4 lids I have painted, and to scared to run em...lol.. Someday Ill use em.. Probably on tar so they dont get messed up..lol But yeah Id say go for it! I'm sure youll like it as much as I do.. Everyone seems to like it.. Good luck and welcome to the boards! You have now found the best Rc place on the whole net! Congrats!

The 200mm Lola body will fit. I think the only issue you may have will be the front bumper. If it doesn't fit well, you'll have to start trimming the extra foam. Buy yourself another foam bumper just in case so you'll also have a full bumper when you put a touring car body on it.

As long as I dont have to shave a bunch off I wont mind.

I dont want to trim half the bumper :hammer:

EDIT: I have a dremal, is that what you would reccomend for cutting the body out?

I cut the body then paint, correct?

It's up to you. All I do is mount the body (locate and punch the body post holes) then paint. I cut the body out later. I don't use a dremel to cut. Just scissors, reamer and circle is all I use.

Cool, I see you live in NYC, I live in Connecticut, 20 min. away from new york.

I usualy go to the hobby shop is Harrison, New York which is like 30 min away next to Rye/Whiteplanes.

Hey, you're not too far. Where will you be running your car? Is there a local track near you? The only tracks I know of that are permanent in CT is in West Haven (Hobby Chambers and that's electric) and R/C Madness which is all the way up there in Einfield, Ct.

We will be attending a lot of races in the tristate area (Team RCNT-East). Mostly in Edison, NJ and Middletown, NY (upstate). You're more than welcome to join us. Just check the Racer's Lounge section of the forum.
