Maybe yall remember me from a couple of months ago. I finally got the money for a T-Maxx. Just bought one the other day. :-)

Well, i havnt even finished break-in yet. Right after i put the thrid tank of gas in, getting ready to start the engine, it all went wrong.

When Traxxas says that you need to turn the transmitter on FIRST, they mean it. I turned the reciever on first. I guess it caught a stray signal, cuz it went WOT into a curb. :-\

I surveyed the damage... found nothing wrong. During the third tank, i noticed that the steering was a little slow and that one of the tires was veering off to the side a little. I took a look at it to find that both front bulkheads were broken.

I went home and went to bed. The next day (today) i took my truck apart to take the broken pieces out. As i was in the process, i noticed that one of the lower A-arms was broken too, along with a bunch of bent screws.

LOL!!! Oh well. Welcome to the hobby right? ;-)

Tomorrow i am going to go buy some new repacement parts. I will see what i can find at the LHS.

Oh, by the way... i just finished installing a fail-safe. :-)

Just thought yall might wanna hear a lil story.

L8r all.

that happened to my MAXX today (dont have a failsafe yet) but luckily i have a big yard so i was able to grab the TX turn it on and take control but i stuff happens cause a few days ago when i was breaking it in i flipped it cause i turned to sharp or suttin but i had a defected steering block and it snapped (it was only the 3rd tank also) so i got some metal Dynamite ones to replace to 2 rears although i only broke 1

If you guys get an urge upgrade the steering servo as I ordered mine already. THe stock ones suck @$$! I am also upgrading the arms with RPM's and am still looking for cvd's all aorund.

Just to let you know I just decided to keep my NEW TMAXX that I was selling for 300 bucks. I went through the first 5 tanks of break in and it seems that I will still need to break it in more. The Transmitter thing should always be on prior to anything. YOur throttle might be open enough for it to just run away from you and that cen be a real bummer and even dangerous if it hits someone. The failsafe will not help you here . Hope you get your TMAXX up and running soon. Sorry to here about your accident. congrats though on your new TMAXX!!!

Yah i think I'm gonna upgrade a lot of parts to RPM... i really like their guarentee. As for the fail-safe, why wont it help me? I thought that was what they are for. Should i use a throttle return spring too?

Thanx for all the help, this is my first Nitro RC. I am hooked by the way. lol.

THESE THINGS ARE WAAAYYYY TOO MUCH FUN!!!

Not to but in but since I've already answered this question tonight. At the very least do the throttle return sping. Then if you want total redundancy get a good Fail safe too. A Fail safe wont help you as most don't work if your battery goes dead. A Failsafe is basically to prevent the possibility of radio interference and most will monitor your batter power and let you know if it's low. The CPU in the Failsafe is powered by the battery pack.

I'm running the OFNA Failsafe now and it works great. Don't listen to those that want to tell you that FAILSAFES are a hassle as they probably just want to sell you replacement parts...lol.

EDIT....RPM products KICK ASS....period.

Peace

OK let me re-phrase my last post. I meant that the failsafe is great for when you lose signal or radio interference is involved BUT when you turn on your TMAXX it can still get away from you if you if the throttle is not at idle. That is why I am going to install a throttle return spring as well like 30% nitroBoy told me in another thread. Sorry for the confusion

Thanx guys!!!

I had a quick question on shocks. I bought myself a set of BigBores and am thinking about putting some trinity blue springs on em. Does that sound good for jumping around a little?

Well, I don't have much personal experience with Those springs. Many here and aborad run em and love them for a good all-purpose weight.

Peace

THe question IS HOW HIGH do youplan taking your TMAXX? If you are really going to go really high like 20 feet or more I was told that you should consider getting some Integy piggbacks. I am considering getting these or maybe the Proline poerstroke set up. It cosists of a coilover set up with two different spring applying two different tensions to dampen the ride. There is also something call a "BYPASS" shock. Not quite sure on this as I have yet to find any member that has this set up or has tried it.

I'm not sure which ones are stiffer, but i'm running the trinity black.

I have a 21 conv. I'm running 4 trinity black in the rear and 2 in the front along with 2 stock springs.

Works ok for me. I'm also using the stock shocks. Haven't upgraded those yet. I think i need thicker shock oil, as i do bottom out on any landing from 4 feet of air or more.

Oh yeah I failed to comment on the shock oil type. sorry. I am a little new to the TMAXX myself but I have been researching it a lot so I am learning my self. !!!:hi:

I was thinking on jumping about 10 feet or so. I'm gonna start out low though, to get used to landing the thing.

I was thinking maybe this set-up would be good:

Big Bore shocks, all trinity blue springs, with about 35 or 40 wt. oil.

Any input on that would be great.

THANX AGAIN!!!

The Traxxas BigBore shocks are excellent. I personally recommend the RC Raven dual rate springs & no more than 60w shock oil.

Look into 1/8 scale shocks , they work well and are better than any 1/10 scale shock I have seen used to date.

On my maxx I use the Losi Dynamite shocks, trinity blue springs, and I just added RPM two stage pistons during this last rebuild, I have not got to try them out yet since installing the new pistons. I am using 50 weight oil in them. I really like the blue springs though, they have performed well for me.

Jon, I'm glad to see you decided to keep the T-maxx

Thanks NCNITRO I am pretty excited about it regardless of my issues with it. I already have a lot of fun with it. I plan on doing a comparison with it next to the MONSTER GT. The TMAXX looks like it will be really fun on the jumps. I am expecting to replace the a arms with RPM ones. The shock system still pondering on whether to get the Integy Piggback shock system and the Powerstroke system. I did hear that the Powerstroke was designed for race. I will let everyone know. I am pretty sure the big bores will hold up but only experience will tell.!!!! :ponder:

The Big Bores with blue springs will work just fine. Use the right weight silicone/oil in them and you will have plenty of fun with your jumping. The piggyback style shocks are great but not an absolute necessity.

I run what amounts to small bore aluminum shocks with 60W silicone and a mix of Trinity Blue and Black springs (for someone who asked earlier in the thread...the BLACK are stiffer). I modified my shocks with some bump stops to prevent them from bottoming out even on the largest of jumps... and so far the shocks have handled everything I could throw at the SkyMaxx.

If these shocks do die, I intend to replace them with a set similar to what I run on my Savage...1/8 scale Mugen buggy shocks. Talk about big bore and solid...my heavy weight Savage runs on only four of these shocks (the Savage like the T is designed for eight shocks) without any problems.

Thanks sky. I've seen a lot of post of people recommending going with 1/8 scale shocks on the maxx, but since i have nothing 1/8 scale, i wasn't sure what to shoot for.

Although, i think the maxx with a 21 conv is pretty much 1/8?

PLease clear this up for me SKY...IS the T MAXX 1/10 0r 1/8
