I got into this hobby because I thought it would be cheaper then my mustang hobby, but it really has seemed to grab ahold of my wallet and not let go. I just realized this after dropping about 2k on stuff for my rc10gt, and the K3 I just got.

I just feel bad. Make it not hurt so much guys.

It's just the thought that these are toys is what is killing me.

I only feel bad for spending so much on the hobby when I don't have enough to get the latest upgrade available. really, I'm not kidding!

Just this racing season, I can also estimate that I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 2K. I run in this hobby because it calms my nerves. I work all week and deal with the dail stresses of living. R/C's are my outlet to have fun.

To say that it's cheaper than your 1:1 ... nope, you can spend almost the same. It's definitely cheaper than SCUBA diving. For me to go diving in the carribean for 5 days will cost me 500 (including airfare) if I stay at a resort, 800-1400 if I go on a "live-aboard" diving boat. I'm not even going to go into upgrading my equipment! lol

What counts is that you enjoy the hobby and it doesn't bring you stress. It's supposed to be a stress inhibitor not a reason for stress. Go on and burn some more nitro. The season is almost done, you can start saving for your hobby in a couple of weeks when it gets too cold.

well thank you, and the thing about the season being close to over is good stuff.

However, I managed to spend about 15k on my 1-1 car in a 6 month span of time. :D

I'm not even close to 3k on this hobby yet in the last 6 months. lol

I did 2K from the 2nd week of June to about Labor day. I won't even go into how much my 1:1 habit costs or even elaborate SCUBA equipment expenses. Just think, a good snorkel/mask combo is already hitting a C note. That's just to see and breath on the surface! I also forgot to mention fishing!

My wife thought it would be nice to get me a nice fishing reel. She had no idea how much it would cost. She went with my dad to get my reel ... BIG MISTAKE! We (dad, brother and myself) are avid fisherman and will only buy quality equipment.

She went with my Dad and took my brother's advice as to what I want. She got me a Trinidad TN12 for some light tackle fishing. When she paid for it, that little reel cost almost $400. I got it and was very happy but had to get the rod. Luckily my dad gave me his as a b-day gift but that rod would've cost me another $400.

I don't know which is of my hobbies is more expensive but I do know that my wife goes bankrupt every christmas, birthday and anniversary! hahahahaha

haha, I hear ya. I hunt/fish/ shoot guns as well, so I know how it goes with the expensive hobbies.

Ya know, if you lived in the Caribbean then you could eliminate the cost of air fare and a place to stay. I rememberwhen I lived in Panama for 6 years I went diving in crystal clear blue water at least monthly depending on my work schedule. I gave up diving when I moved back to the states, it just seemed depressing about diving in the Chesapeake Bay.

The same was true with fishing. We'd go for peacock bass and after a few hours have several hundred to take home. When we went salt water fishing over the course of a week we generally would come home with a few hundred pounds of fillets.

I never feel bad spending money on my hobbies. I earned it. Its not taking money away from my savings, retirement or anything else. Buy good and buy once its the only way to go.

I hear you on fishing equipment. My wife just shake he head when she sees me drop a grand on a pole and reel. I wont go into the traveling because its close to the same as Divers scuba trips.

Hobbies sooth my sole and make me somewhat tolerable to the people around me.

poop like this makes you feel good. Doesn't matter the cost.

Who's the little guy those big fish are hanging on? :D

I can honestly say that I do not feel bad or any regret when it comes to money I spend on my hobbies. As some have said, hobbies are soothing to me. Without them, I'd be an butthead all of the time instead of only some of it. :D

As a Navy man I'm sure you know that in the big water man isn't at the top of the food chain. I need to find the photos of the the big ones. Marlin and Shark fishing is fun as well.

Its good to know that I'm not the only butthead into RCs. :p:

DAMN ED! those are some nice fish!

Spending for your hobby should soothe your soul. Just try to keep everything in perspective when spending ... possible? Regardless, enjoy your hobby and keep the stress down. Only time I get depressed with any hobby is when I don't have enough money to cater to all of them at once!

My wife doens't mind when I go out the door with r/c's in hand or fishing gear in tote. She knows that it keeps me happy and most of all, she comes with me and enjoys as well.

I always feel bad when I spend alot of money no matter what it is. Esp. when it comes to R/cing because I know its a endless money pit and its not like a car where I can add so many goodies and stuff and it ADDS value to the vehicle. And I can sell it and not take as much as a loss as I do in R/c stuff. I spended a almost 3 Grand so far this year in R/cing, which is most of my play money, so my other toys have taken a hit, so I'm laying off a little bit more than I used to with stuff. But I do like the hobby, thats when everythings going right and I dont break anything, cuz then it gets REALLY frustrating, but what can ya do..lol..

Ok seeing how there are many husbands that spend their money on strip clubs and women, I am not regretting it as it relieves SOOOO MUCH stress that I get from your day to day happenings. Mostly work from me. Being able to bash my things with speed power I am happy. I live with no regrets on spending on this hobby. I know that it can get Exspensive but to me happiness really has no price. happiness can come from the smallest thing in the most unexpectable place and time.

Strip clubs leave me broke and flustered. R/C's leave me broke and flustered as well, but at least the wife doesn't mind the r/c's. :)

I feel the same way as many of the above do. I work hard, my wife works hard. We deserve everything we purchase... Just like Eddy said... we're don't take anything away from the larger, more important things so it's ok in my book

If RCs had tits we would all be in trouble.

Bars and strip clubs are fun for an occasional boys night out. I'm happily married and content with my wife and having hobbies.

Strip clubs leave you frustrated. R/C cars leave you satisfied (unless you had big problems)
Either way, whatever you spent, you get to take the car home with you.

r/c's leave me broke from upgrading or replacing broken parts. They leave me flustered trying to cut a good line but can't get the suspension set up right and it pushes in a turn. But yes, I still come home satisfied and she (the car) comes home with me everytime!

As far as the strip club goes ... I only do that when woodie comes into town. Word of advice, DON'T GET CASH FROM THE FUNNY MONEY ATM! I'm saving my dollar bills now for when woodie comes back.

I've spent the past year taking a break from my 1:1 VW addiction ($20 in 2yrs). I've probibly spent $3k or so on RC in the last year maybe a little more. it doesn't bother me a bit. i still rent an apt, but I'm not looking for a house till my son hits K'garden. retirement is being taken care of. and i save what i can. I'm doing all this on my own, so i figure I've earned it.

and I've never been to a strip club, i can't see the point in spending money like that on a girl i wont be taking home. and if i could, would i want to?

I'm a newbie in this hobby, so I'm not that deep down the hole yet...
I agree all you guys say - it is a "healthy" hobby and really help you to relief the stress. Now I just have one question - is it possible to turn your hobby be your career? Or once you turn it be career, you'll lost the interest?

Still learning.....
