I was in the middle of my 3rd break-in tank on my REVO today, and my engine stalled.... No big deal... right? I tried to use the e-z start to restart the engine, and I heard a pop. It smelled like burning electronics. Don't tell Traxxas, but I took the ez-start apart and easily found the culprit. The diode near the 2 lights was fried.
What do I do? Do I have to go through Traxxas, or should any Traxxas dealer swap me for a new one? How to I get this taken care of? I definitely don't want to buy a new one! Anyone had a similar issue?

I had a similar problem, I have a maxx but they use the same ez start, anyway I would use it, it would turn the engine over but it wouldnt heat the plug, so I ripped it apart and found a burnt diode, whent down to my lhs payed $7.45 for a new controller solved my problem,

Well if it was a defective diode then let Traxxas know they have pretty good customer service.

I won't tell Traxxas.....How much you got?

I don't know how, but after I unsoldered the push-switch, and took the thing apart, I soldered on a jumper to bypass the Diode... It didn't work, however... by the time I put it back together, it worked fine. I don't know why, the diode is still fried. Whatever I guess. I'm starting a new thread about tuning my REVO.

Well usually diodes are used to regulate the way a certain amount of power is sent through a circuit. From experience mine have never crapped out on me.. DO you happen to know exactly what you wer doing when it did crap out?

I would still get a new controller, The diode is probley the one that stops the ez start if somthing is wrong with the engine or somthing.

True that. The Diode may be the part that stops making the es start assy from over reving the engine. It couyld be a part that indicates when the plug is bad or the enigine is flooded.

It's a common problem. It happened to mine, and it's happened to several others at the track. Everything works, but it won't fire the plug.
You can either get a replacement from traxxas, or do what the rest of us do. Use a glow ignitor. The starter battery will last much longer, and the plug will also get hotter.

The same thing happened to me, it happend when I used the ez start for a long period of time, I had it turnning over the engine fro a good 30 secounds, then all of a sudden the controller got hot and a whisp of smoke came out of the controller, found a burnt diode. But I also got a glowplug ignitor I like it a lot.

It actually happened to me when I plugged in a fresh batt pack. It seems to be working now, but true that diodes regulate voltage, which me cause unknown issues...

The purpose of a diode is to allow voltage to flow ONLY in one direction.
When the alternator dies on a 1:1 car, it's usually a 50 cent diode.
