My new .26 red dot keeps dieing after WOT or even 3/4 throttle. Pinch test is perfect and it'll idle fine. Acceleration is great and I've got a good smoke trail but after I get off the throttle it'll die. Tried leaning out the hsn and going rich but it does the same thing either way.

Edit: leaned my lsn a tiny bit and richened the hsn a fair amount and it seems a bit better. Still needs a good amount of throttle to get started but that may change as it breaks in.

try setting the idle screw to a slightly wider gap normaly 1 to 2 mm about the thickness of a credit card

Once the picco is broken in it will run the best with .5-1mm. It's normal for most any nitro engine to run rich when they are cold, they really like heat and once they warm up they run much better. If the engine starts perfectly, idles and runs great when they first fire up from cold, chances are it will be too lean once it warms up, that's why you should never tune a engine until it's warmed up. Using the radio to bump up the idle for starting is a good idea, that way when the engine does fire it has the ability to suck more air which will help with the cold/rich issue. Once the engine has a chance to build some heat you will notice that the rpm will start to get higher at idle, then you can adjust the radio back to normal idle gap settings controlled by the screw.

Thanks Robin, seems to be getting better but it's still a real fresh engine so when things break in a bit I'll be sure to keep what you said in mind. It'll have to wait though, got a rock stuck between the rear shaft and chassis...UE titanium shaft and hardened cup so I think the trans took the hit :/ Guess I'll have to look into steel gears haha

Pipe's awesome man!

Hi, I kept getting the same issue that u had. I was always afraid of lettin of the gas because I knew the engine would just die.

Fixed last night... I just swapped the fuel tank for another one and it stopped dying on me. Guess my last tank had a really small leak (still cannot find it) that was causing my engine to lean out once I got of the throttle.

This helped me, you might want to give it a try.

The pinch test will tell you if the low speed mixture is correct. Your problem with the engine dying at 3/4 to full throttle sounds to me like your high speed mixture is off - probably too lean.

I always tune from rich to lean and tuning is more easily done when you run a HOT glow plug. If the pinch test is ok then I suggest that you richen your high speed needle and start to try some full throttle runs. If the engine is too rich there will be a lot of smoke and the speed will be low. Turn the HSN (high speed needle) in 1/4 turn and make another run. Keep doing this until the car is running fast and then stop trying to get more out of it.

I do my final tuning with a 1/2 tank of fuel because the mixture will change from rich to lean as the tank level goes down. If you are running good with 1/2 a tank then you will be slightly rich on a full tank and slightly lean on a near empty tank.

There are other things that can cause tuning problems like air leaks.

Good luck,

Lee
