I stopped following your builds til you let the boys get involved 😜

Just kidding. That thing looks sick man.
Crap, I forgot about the boys. I had a lot of trouble with stuff today. Guess I do need to bring in the A team.

So I put the boys to work making air guard for the front suspension. This big shield goes under the front suspension to keep air out of the body. And it’s kinda a front bumper also.

Got a pile of parts in yesterday and found I needed some more small parts to complete the roller.
I got metal differential housing. The inner housings are good with new gaskets and oil. 500k front and 15k rear.
I got the metal outside housings and they are really nice. For the price they are good. I worry about the quality of the metal but they seem ok. I do need to shim the differentials to get proper gear lash and Arrma does not make shims. But the Techno shims will work. I’ll get a pack tomorrow at the hobby shop $4.00
And I discovered I need to get metal sway bar mounts. The plastic ones are not really that strong. And I am really concerned about turning this thing .
I got all the lower ABC&D blocks installed and then discovered an upper in the front so I ordered that. But all the other metal parts showed up. Now I have a completely ridged backbone to support the power and the driveline.

I got the metal spring seats for the shocks and metal tops. 5000 weight oil and very stiff springs to support the additional motor combo.

I got metal hubs because they are really heavy duty with much larger inner bearings and an additional breaking on the rear. So three rear wheel bearing on each rear hub.

I managed to get all the screws in the chassis installed. That might not seem like a lot but there are so many layers of plates and parts I had to install all the screws and then tighten them all . Before removing a couple of them at a time to install components. Everything can shift if you have to much disassembled.

So next week I should be ready for tires and a body.

OK it’s time .

The first speed run has been announced.
August 27 5pm at Hawkeye downs. Two races to see who has the fastest rc car in Iowa.
One in August and one in September.

I have been running this car on a smaller asphalt oval every other Saturday night. Over the last couple months I have made a lot of progress tuning the suspension to turn. I have added a 3.10mm front sway bar
50w shock oil and stiffer springs on the right side.
Messing with droop screws and spring weights I won the last race I was in and the car is seriously planted. Then I moved the battery to the right side. I feel this is a big improvement balancing the chassis and adding weight to the right rear wheel. I will race it again Saturday night to find out how that works.
So at first it would not turn. Then it would only turn if I broke the tires loose and drifted. Then it would turn but only under braking. With 3s it was OK on 4s it was not better and with 6 s it was out of control.

Now after a lot of work turning it’s working good and running 4s.
Now letting off the throttle tightens up the turn and it is awesome. But I don’t have to slam off throttle or brake. It is not eating tires and not drifting. I can drive anywhere on the track. With 4 s it is a monster. And I am running a 17/46 gear ratio on 4s.
17 is as small as I can fit.
The little RC track I race on is small. The speed run trsck is enormous. The speed runs are on a full size 3/4 mile asphalt race track.

For the speed run I am going to change from 4s to 6s
I have a pinion gear set from 17-36. And that’s it. I am just gonna get there and make practice runs and check data and the scale weights.

And I have a stock infraction I am going to run also.

I am only going to be running one motor one ESC and one battery. This announcement kinda caught me off guard and I cannot afford two motors at this point and it probably for the best. Let’s see how fast it goes on the first time out. And see what the competition brings.

That's really cool, good luck.
How's the aero on the truck body at elevated speeds?

I don’t know exactly. But what I have found is the truck has no downforce. The car is much better at the speeds I have reached so far. But at probably double that speed I am very curious to find out

Got the car out on the track. It’s better than before and ready for a top speed run. I got some advice from the current record holder and he thinks I can go faster because like went 125 with stuff he had around.
Looking forward to the speed run on the 27 th. Gotta pray for a dry night.

got third place in Saturday’s oval race because of sloppy driving. I stuck it in the infield twice. But the car rocks. I was still able
To get back to third place.
For the speed run I am going from 3 s battery to 6 s battery and 17 tooth pinion to a 29-34 tooth pinions.

The speed run was last night and I was not prepared. But it was all good. Sorta

First pass and the pinion came off. It went past at 84 mph with no brakes.
Second pass with the gear attached went 90 mph but felt flat.
Changed gear and it went 94 mph but the ESC shut down.
Made another pass and it went 96 mph but the ESC would thermal off as soon as I gave it full throttle.

New body is in the mail and I’ll get a XLX2 ESC this week.

Top speed of the night was 131. That was the same car that went 126 last year. But the good news is it is totally stable at speed.

I am very happy actually. I have been land speed racing for 14 years. My real goal was to get there find the starting line then find the finish line . Try not to crash in the middle and see how I did.

That all went perfectly. The car was stable at speed and I could get it stopped and it turns on the surface.
I learned how the game is played. No rules just make the gps sensor go faster than any one else.
And I have some ideas with my pit.
Remember to bring the lap top. That is a good one.
And of corse the car needs better aero and to not over heat. Totally successful day.
The plans for next year already in the works. That 1/5 scale XLX2 motor and esc combo is so big I am going to have to build a whole car around it.
So I already have a big list for Perfect pass.
Next race is three weeks.
Goal is 100 mph club
Stop the over heating
See how the new body does.

Then start building a new car.
