I’m going to make my winter project a DR10. There are enough no prep racing around to warrant building one now.

So I’m starting with the DragRaceConcepts chassis and a DR10 kit.
I’ll order the Pro line 1967 Mustang body after I get the chassis together.

I want to get the Mustang body a dark blue/green color. I might have to get a spray gun and use proline paints. This should be a fun learning experience. I hope don’t I learn not to try to paint. I know that already.

Pulled the trigger on a DR10 kit. And I have the Drag Race Concepts wheelie bar and shock tower coming as well. That should get me to a rolling chassis.
After that it’s tires body and paint. Can’t wait to get started on the chassis.

The paint part is going to be interesting. I have worked in body shops and been around plenty of paint. Problem is I work with very talented people and know I suck at it. But I want to get better. So I’m probably not just going to use rattle cans and do one color. I am thinking about using proline paint and getting a spray gun and air brush and trying to do a good job. I know the body’s get scratched up. And I only see them a protection and aerodynamic things. But I want to learn to paint better. I know Hemistorm only uses paint from cans but he is talented and it’s his ability to make and cut masks that create spectacular work. So I need to think about making better masking jobs also.

I got the cart before the horse. But the kit will be here soon.
This is the Drag Race Concepts DR10 chassis kit. This piece of carbon and aluminum weighs 217 grams.
This will replace the chassis pan and has a nice anti roll bar and ten inch carbon wheelie bar.

As the excitement builds!!
I paid 3.99 for FedEx home and it has been a lot of fun tracking the package. The kit might be here today. It’s less than an hour away from the last destination. But if it has to go to a distribution hub it will be Monday.

Feels like Christmas Eve

My chassis kit went the wrong way. It was about an hour and a half west of my location in Iowa now, fourteen hours later it is two and a half hours away in Illinois. At least it’s getting a nice tour of the Midwest.

I had a package come from California, go to St Louis area, then Chicago, back to St Louis, then past me to Indianapolis, then back west to me. I used to work in a shipping department, so I try noy to get to upset with shipping companies. But FedEx had me fuming over that package because it took forever to crawl its way across the country.

OK I picked up the body and front wheels the rear wheels are on order. Have Them next week. My favorite hobby shop is an hour drive away. But so worth the trip. And since I buy everything from them mail order it is like a local hobby shop with an inventory that can’t be touched. Crash and Bash Hobbies rocks. I’m going to do this whole build with them.

Ordered the same body and rear tires. Should be here in a few days.

I’m going to go for an old school dragster look. Not sure what I’m doing for paint or how I’m going to even apply the paint. But I like these wheels. They come in a sorta tan gray plastic color.
I want them to look like magnesium or aluminum so I sprayed them with a light mist coat of spray chrome. This mist left a cast like finish and very shiny. I then sprayed a satin gray and clear matte finish. Quick and simple .

They turned out really good. I was thinking about doing a Grabber Green, but maybe we'll do a dark purple with ghost flames or something cool. Still undecided.

I can’t decide on what I want. Everything from primer gray on the outside with some salt rust fenders. It is a mustang after all.
Or some high dollar show car maybe a NHRA sponsored race team or Steve McQueens Bullet. Even though that was a 68. The possibility’s are endless. Going to be a fun build.

Been going around about color all night.
Primer gray is cool BUT polycarbonate gray is an issue. I can paint it gun metal inside and out then spray enamel gray primer and it might stick.
Choice two is white. But not that bright white of PS1 but like a bone white.

That I can mix from proline paints. Just need a spray gun.

I’m thinking of an Associated sponcerdd seventy’s dragster look. 👀

You could always spray the outside with a matte finish to achieve the primered look. Scratches will scratch the poly too, so it would still look kinda normal.

But love the white one too 😉

That’s what I'm going to try. Using some scrap Lexan I will spray a PS gunmetal on the inside and outside. Let it tack up good and then primer the outside gray. Let that dry for a day or two then hit it with a hammer. If it just blows off then I will know.
I like the gray flat look for a scale appearance.

The paint on the inside of a Lexan bodys looks to shiny and smooth it is not scale.

I’m going to also do some tests with ps1 white and black backer to see how that looks and PS1 white with a matte clear on the outside.
