I just had the same problem, tore it all apart and found the problem. Parts would have been roughly $20

(I actually snapped the 4 screws holding the ring gear to the bucket)

Got a whole NEW differential on ebay for like $12 shipped.

I am going to save the old one in case I can use the parts in the future.

Once I blow up 2 or 3 of em.... hopefully I can build 1 good one from the parts.
 
Depends on if you are going to buy it off ebay or your lhs becuase I just rebuild my rear and it costed me about double to rebuild buying the parts from my lhs then it would to have bought the complete diff off ebay.

EXACTLY, thats why I looked on ebay first.
 
i had rebuilt the rear but it didnt move as smooth as it did before i tore it apart but it works finethought it was broken then after i reuilt it come to find out the one way gear in tranny had exploded lol live and learn
