wassup ppl.
i just recently traded my tmaxx for this savage and i was wondering if the diffs are sealed like a buggy and you can use oil's instead of grease??

jost onthe front and rear not the center. I have used the 5000 on both. Seems to work well.

ok on the center i installed the reverse on mine last evening and noticed the gears looked dry some where plastic some where metal do i grease these with a light weigght grease like white lithium or dose use the hpi grease i got with the savage
i am sorry for sound stupid but i do not like tearing something down to just do it over cause i screwed it up
oh and i feel priviligded that jon2 got his 7000th post on me lol

LOL its not the post count but rather the quality. I would just make sure your bearings are oiled and in good shape and then close her up.

Also replace the drive cups with the heavy duty ones. the stockers suck.

The transmission is designed to run dry. You do not need to grease it.

ok kool .i did what i normally did with the tmaxx i have a small tube of dry graphite i put a small amount of that in there

If you tear into the diffs at all, save yourself some time down the line and do the 4-spider mod now if it doesn't have it already. Also, use 3x18mm machine screws to hold the ring gear onto the diff cup. The stock coarse threaded screws have a tendency to back out on you and ruin a diff. Also, you might want to shim the diff a little to get the gear mesh better between the ring/pinion gear. It will help make things last longer.

Here's the 4-spider upgrade: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000426515&I=LXJLH6&P=K
It comes with the better diff cup screws as well. You need 2 kits, one for each diff.

Also, here's shims for the diff:

thank you i do believe he told me he did the 4 gear mod
so i will just get a bottle of 5k diff oil and redo them cause i am sure all he used was the little white tubes of hpi grease

try putting a lighter oil in the rear...it will allow more "diff" action and give less on power rear push........and let off power turn on a dime too.....don't put too much graphite in the tranny cause you can gum up the 2 speed clutch....and slam that F'er to the ground....salvages handle like 4WD bricks....
