i have an savage ss I'm have problems with to much play with the diff outdrive cup. i can move it side to side and up and down. I have replaced the bearing and reshimmed a few time and still have the slop. now I'm thinking thats its my diff housing. Any ideas thanks

You can't tell where the slop is? The diff cup will move in and out of the diff a bit due to how it's held together with the pin inside the cup. You should have very little up/down wiggle though with the actual diff in your hand and you shouldn't really have any more with the diff installed.

If you take the diff out and can wiggle the outdrives, then your cup and ring gear or outdrive shafts are worn.

Same problem with my XL! I have replace the diff cases and nothing seems to help, it's pretty sloppy but I keep running it and it's been fine.

i replace the cups and reshimmed and it was fine. no slop, the diff case was worn and the out drive cups where too. that problem was causing the front end to lock up under turning. the dogbone would come out of the cup and jam. thanks for the info
