Hi there,
I just bought my axial rtc along with two standard 6 cell stick battery packs. Now I want to have the two split packs mounted to my front axles.

Is it posable to cut the packs open and make my own packs out out my stick batteries?

And directions/pics, etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks tons!

When I first got into crawling I tried the very same thing because i had seen 6 cell spit packs on the front axle, well it didn't work out because it turned out that the cells used for that were a 2/3A cell and not a sub c cell that standard battery packs are made of. They are usually about 1400-1600 mah packs which are generally much smaller in capacity then a standard sub c nimh battery pack.

Here is a pic of a 2/3A saddle pack.

Ultimately you would be much better off going lipo, you can pick them up for usually less then a nimh pack and have better run times and a more consistent power output.

Thanks for the help and pic. Did you make that saddle pack? The pack I have and wanted to make into a saddle pack is a venom power 6 cell 7.2v NIMH stick battery 4200mAh. Since it is 4200 mAh would I be able to do this?
Thanks

No the pack that you have is made up of sub c battery cells which are much larger then the a 2/3A cell used to make up the battery in the picture,

You can purchase the individual cells and solder your own packs, if you choose to.

Yes he could and for his application he would want to purchase 2/3A cells. Sub C cells are too big to work properly and not be in the way of things.

Thanks so much for the info. Those pics said a thousand words. So now since I will be dropping the cash on a Lipo or two, I will be also looking to find a ESC with a Lipo cutoff and a strong brake. So I guess this brings up a final question....would you have any recommendations on a good Lipo/ESC combo?
Thanks for all your help

Bang for your buck a Castle Creations Sidewinder ESC, BEC and Castle Link to program them from your computer along with some 3 cell lipo batteries and a Lipo charger would be the way to go, I would also recomend getting a servo/ front axle battery mount plate as well, there are a couple of options here as well, STRC makes one that works well if you want to keep your steering linkage out front which would be the cheaper route, or there is the LD BTA set up that moves the steering linkage behind the axle(BTA) but you will also need a set of Vanquish High Steer Knuckles. Both make it so you can 4 link the front which I highly recommend.

For the money it looks like a good charger and will balace your batteries as it charges them, you will also want to change out your battery connectors, I would recommend Deans Plugs

Wow!
Ya that will give me more than enough to think about :D I really like the idea of the BTA steering and will be looking into that also.
Once again....thanks tons!
