Sorry if this has already been posted/asked but...

I have an old school t maxx with a trx pro .15. I've been told these are referred to as a "narrow max" due to the narrow A arms. My question is... I am looking into either purchasing a new truck with the 3.3 or getting the engine and "upgrade kit" traxxas sells. Will this engine fit? I'm concerned about the holes to mount it not lining up properly or not having enough room on the side due to the fuel tank. My pro 15 is a tight fit as it is so I am curious. I've read posts about having to replace the a arms and trans due to torque issues with the 3.3. If anyone could answer this/ give me some more advice on this it would be greatly appreciated.

The 2.5 or the 3.3 engine will fit the old Pro.15 narrow Maxx without any clearance issues. They both use the same engine mount and clutch bell setup as the Pro.15 engine.
The wide track a-arms are not a necessity, but do help make the truck less prone to roll over’s because of the added width they add.
The transmission can be made to withstand the torque of the higher torque engines better with a Forward Only Conversion.

With that said, the 3.3 produces a lot more torque than the old Pro.15 and the drive train of the old Pro just isn’t designed to handle it very well if you run it hard. The center and wheel shafts will start to twist like a twizzler stick and will inevitably fail. The differentials also are not as strong as the later models and shearing the screws that hold the ring to the diff cup is a common failure.

One just has to determine if they are willing to do all the upgrades that will eventually be needed to have a reliable truck or start with a new truck.

I did all the up grades and went with the revo shafts and axel carrershave had no problems but if you don't change the shafts you will not have much run time cause you will replace them probably in the first 3-5 times of running it the shafts will look like twizlers ,it sucks.

What snook said rings true in its entirety. Because of the truck you have, opposed to the 2. 5 or 3. 3 I would recommend and OS .18 cvr as it won't kill you drive and is plenty of power, and uses your current exhaust setup.

Definetly the OS is the way to go. I was in the same boat before I decided to get a savage xl. I thought well by the time I upgrade the tranny, the driveline and the engine, I'm going to be around 300 or so depending on how far I went with it plus other parts that we're needed after I upgraded like arms and so on. So I figured I'll take the Tmaxx platform as far as I can with the stock driveline and then get a big block truck. The savage is one heck of a machine and the xl can be reliable after some modding. Hope this helps, Steve.

yeah but building something is supposed to be half the fun isnt it??? moding where you want to and then other mods cause it was recomended by enough people and then the mods after the maiden voyage after you see if there is any week points or faulty parts... and then you have a solid truck....

compaired to buying a new truck the upgrades are not that bad if you are trying to save $$$ .i have had no problems with the diff in mine i did the foc ,the wide max kit , and changed everything else to revo ,shafts and axel carriers and hve had no problems.

But i don't do a lot of high jumping and have no tracks and where i'm at now the grond is flat except for the dranage ditches.but i did live next to a place that had a lot of jumps and it worked fine .not huge air though. I would like to try and see how much abuse it will take though.

dont put a 3.3 in it if you dont want to change anything elece i put a 2.5 in mine and works finw with the same set up as the pro 15 ( still need the conversion kit) and I baught a 3.3 tmaxx needed to fix the truck but the motor was ready to go and put it in the pro 15 and messed up the spur gear and both diffs wile babying it buy the 2.5 r motot and do the trade in up grade and get the motor for like 80 bux i wanna say mine was dont hold me to it.

I would say get it running and sell it then convert that money to a Savage X 4.6. Because by the time you spend the money and time upgrading everything that breaks you would have been able to buy one anyway. Savages are much better trucks inmho. I have had 3 T-Maxxes in the past. No matter what you do to it as far as upgrades go it will never stand up to the abuse that a box stock Savage can take.

No not really when I consider that the last T-MAXX I had within the first 6 months of owning it I had to replace everything on the truck except for the fuel tank. Including the chassis plate. I have had my Savage X for 2 years now and my XL for about 1 year. Other than a couple of 1 way bearings and 2 spur gears I haven't really had to do anything to either one to keep them running. They just go and go and go and I am not at all nice to them when I drive them either I bash the crap out of them.

Don’t get me wrong, I have had many of each and out of the box the savage is a more durable truck.
But stating that “No matter what you do to it as far as upgrades go it will never stand up to the abuse that a box stock Savage can take” is totally incorrect.

Ok but how much money in after market parts do you have to spend on a T-MAXX to make it as durable as a box stock Savage? Because the factory parts just don't hold up.
