Everything was going great during the breaking in of the engine, I was on the 5th tank of gas, reving to full throttle for the 3 second plus 2 second count, it was shifting into the next gear several times and then suddenly piston got suck at tdc. I opened the engine and found that the bottom circular section of the connecting rod was broken. I followed all break in procedures in the book for the engine. Has anyone else experienced this? Does Traxxas cover these issues under warranty or I am just going to have to cough up more money for a trade in? Do you think the Hobby store where I purchased it will exchange the engine for another new one? I have broken in several engines in the past and never had a problem. Engine is only 3 days old.

same thing happened to me i was on like my 7th tank i took it to my LHS and they called traxxas and swapped it out for free

Traxxas may want to inspect the engine, but if all looks normal I would think they would cover it as a part failure.Traxxas showed me great support and service when I had a problem with a motor just after break in.

Traxxas has great customer service. I'm sure they'll help you out without much or any hassle.

i've seen this happen alot when using the traxxas breakin method...

i broke my 3.3 in using the heat cycle method and it is a screamer... 2 gallons of 30% trinity platinum and the piston will still stick occasionally, nice and tight

do some research on the heat cycle methods and try that with the motor that traxxas sends you... you will be much happier with the outcome

I'd have to agree with that advice. I think the Traxxas method puts too much strain on the motor with the rich settings they recommend and the amount of time spent at those settings. Good luck and let us know what Traxxas says about the broken rod.

Traxxas 3.3 Replaced Engine

Sent my engine back to Traxxas and they sent me a new one back. the connecting rod broke during break in.

They screwed me over, after less than a gal, and it all shattered, had to buy a whole new setup..........

Connecting Rod

I definately think there is a design flaw with this engine, seems to happening to a lot of people. I think the only reason they replaced mine was that it was only three days old. I always break them in immediately in case there is a problem.

haven't had any engine problems but the few problems I did have so far, traxxas worked very fast to correct. I am very pleased with their customer service so far.
