I've started a company called FUBAR Technologies and I love to play with Carbon Fiber. So this summer I'm going to try and make a Carbon Fiber Revo. Vantage Ext. Chassis and Arms, Aerostick Rods all around, and then make the rest like the 2 servo boxes, Battery boxskid plaes, and guards, CF body, bumpers, handle bar, Tuned Exhaust pipe and header, Wing and wing mount and whatever else I can make! Hopefully I make enough money to do of all this work, and time of course. I'll update as I go along.

Happy Bashday!

alright cool. i love carbon fiber.

How carbon fiber is made of, and form? need to be pressed and Autoclaveed?? I've got autoclave access, thinking about fooling around with cf, but no idea how to make them. been searching in the web and found nothing.

carbon fiber is put in casing of some sort that forms the shape of what ever your triing to make. then put into a type of bag and vaccum sealed so no air is in the bag. then its put into a oven and baked until its harden. then you pull the carbon fiber out pull it out the bag. then out the casing. from there you smoothen the edges because they are razor sharp.

if i missed some thing or i made a mistake please correct me.

is there a liquid carbon for sell? I know fiber is. So no autoclave. what sort of temp you set for the oven. the bag must stand the heat too. This isn't sound hard. I'll try some, if I can get liquid carbon some where. Thnaks dannyd

Liquid Carbon Fiber I'm not sure about. But to form Carbon Fiber you can use 2 molds to apply the weight and form. I simply use a vacuum bag and weight. It works fine. All you need is Carbon Fiber fabric or strips and then take what you want to be Carbon Fiber and you can simply wrap the object in the fabric (but lubricate the object 1st!!) and then apply a mixture of epoxy glue and hardener. This mixture you can play with the amounts. The more hardener you use, obviously, the harder its gonna get, and vice versa. Then you can leave it as is, or if you have a vacuum bag, use it or buy onr because this really helps with the shape and the finish. You can take sleeves and make tubes or boxes, the options are endless. If you have any bubbles or blemishes, you can spray a coat of Vaneer and then it will have a glossy shine!

Can you post pics of your vacuum bag setup?
I'm interested to see how your doing it.

Are you saying that you are wrapping parts in fiberglass?

There is a "liquid" form of CF...it's called Carbonite....I.D. snowboards developed it....I rode for them for 1 year...they also made SPIN wheels and a few other items from the stuff...basically it's shredded fiber mixed w/ the resin...it's blown into molds under "X" ammount of pressure and left to cure.....

Eddy CF is wrapped around parts all the time, they just make a thinner version of the part (or you can mill/grind something down yourself) and wrap it...

fubar, could you please post pics of this carbon fiber making process? I am very interested to see how this works. Thanks

Fiberglass is another material you can use but it won't be as form fitting as a Carbon Fiber Weave would. And the weave of Carbon Fiber can vary for different applications. The mold that I was talking about is...if you've seen CSI or Discovery Channel where they fill a foot print with a liquid that hardens to rock, and use it make a mold of the footprint, the same way it was inbedded in the ground. So for the Carbon Fiber portion of it, you would lay either a single, double, triple etc layers of Carbon Fiber while brushing equal amounts of Epoxy and Hardener between the layers. Both molds will have the painters plastic in it, with a light coat of oil, so it separates. Make sure there is no creases in the plastic, otherwise it will show up in the finished product and may deform it afterwards. If you have trouble trying to make it flat, use a hair dryer to get the plastic to a pliable consistency and slowly press the molds together to get the plastic to form to the mold. Make sure there is adequate weight pressing the molds together. You might get air bubbles or an uneven surface. Lets say you wanted to make the Carbon Fiber a little softer, asd the cracking and brittleness are common flaws in the material, you can play with the mixture of Epoxy to Hardener. I like to go 40/60 of Expoy to Hardener on items that I want to have a litlte give. Be careful though because if its too pliable, its not going to hold up and could up just bending out of shape. As for the liquid molding, I know it needs to heated but I'm unsure of the exact process but its really expensive. I had no idea Spin rims were made by ID. I had a front Spin rim when I mountain biked. But switching to downhill wasn't a good idea for the rim. I'll take step-by-step pics of the CF Battery Box and Servo Box.

Does anybody have or know of someone that has a carbon fiber or graphite hockey stick that is broken, cracked or will soon to be, please let me know. The shape and size is absolutely for a FOC on the Revo. I have an example pic if anyone would like to see. PM with your email and I'll pass it over.

I'm trying to restore my Kyosho Mint Las Vegus, but all plastic radio box parts are in pieces. I'm hoping to use cf to replace the radio box. I can duplicate other parts with aluminium. FUBAR, I just send you a pm with my e-mail address. Thanks!
