Can you switch back to 20% form 30% Nitro ?

I read that it isn't true that you are not able to switch back to 20% after running 30% Nitro. "The rumor is that the higher Nitro content makes the engine run at a different temp and the metals get 'used to' that, and that's why you can't go back." So what are your thoughts on this ?

"What happens when yo uover heat your engine ?" " Does that mean you now have to go up in percentage ?" "No, your engine will run fine as long as you didn't the piston and sleve." - just some exta excerpts(sentences for those of you who don't know) from the article:D

You should be fine. But you may have to change the plug. Also set needles back to factory. You run 30%? She'd run pretty dang hot, not to mention like a bullet also. I like to stick to good old 20% i just feel anything under is almost robbing you of power, and 30%+ is kinda overkill. Not saying theres anything wrong with it as i know lots of people use it with good reults , but just not for me. :D

No 'Goofy'(Buckethead):), I'm not running 30%, I'm running Trinity Monster Horsepower 20%.:D
I just saw this in one of my magazines and thought that it would be a good thread to start to see what kind of response it got !;) I was just curious to see what eveybody's thoughts were on it.:p:
 
I have run 30% Odonnel for about 5 years and had to get 20% last time as my lhs was out of 30. All my rigs ran fine with very little adjustment, just a bit lower on "get up and go".
 
That's what I figured, but everbody always makes a big stink about it, so I thought that I would post it and find out what evrboy thought. I was told that 30% is for racing and that if your running a big block, you should run 30%.:shrug:

I've ran 20% forever in my S25 with great results.
 
Run what you got

I'm stuck in Iraq with limmited fuel resources and have ran anything from 15% to 30%, takes a quick sec to re-tune to different fuel but other than I haven't had any issues yet and just a barely noticeable difference in power and response....any noticeable differnence typically meant I was off on my tuning.
 
The only annoying thing is that if your engine is shimmed to run 10% and you throw 30% in it, you may blow glow plugs due to too much compression. With an engine that is tuned/shimmed for 20%, running 15%-25% is usually safe with a bit of tuning to compensate for the change. If you go higher or lower than 5% from what your engine was setup for, re-shimming the head may be necessary.

That said, I ran 20% for years and for the past 2 years have run 25% because I got a new engine that recommended it. Instead of having 2 fuels sitting around, I just ran 25% in everything. Honestly, I wish I had switched to 25% a long time ago. Cooler running, better pep off the line, easier idling... just generally a better overall experience at the extra cost of $5-$7 a gallon.

That was definately a :goodpost: ! I may possibly try running 25%-30% now after hearing that and after I finish the 3 gallons of 20% Trinity Monster Horsepower. BTW, what 25% fuel is it that you are running ?
 
Well, my LHS carries 25% byrons on occasion, but usually I end up buying a gallon of 20% and a gallon of 30%, then mix them 50/50 using a spare empty jug. I ran mixed stuff the majority of last summer without an issue. I have a full gallon sitting here now just waiting for me to have time to burn it!

Been using byrons for the past 2 years and really like it over trinity. Less toxic fumes.
 
I really like the Trinty & so does the guy at my LHS, but yeah your right about the 'toxic fumes'(tell me about it)......especially running in the backyard with the privacy brick walls, which is why I am getting strawberry & blueberry parma nitro scents.;):D
