i have to say the new post a link thing is a good idea.this might stop alot of spam.not everyone has looked at every thread and might not know that it has been stated befor.i'll be the first to say things are looking good.its alot better than DO A SEARCH THERE IS A LOT INFO ON THAT..........that comes off sometimes like (dam what a butthead).

I don't think it is being an butthead to politely let a newbie know that there is a search feature that might give him the info he is looking for. There have been times when I have done that, there have been times when I have searched for a noob and then told them where the search button was. Every board has its own "personality" so to speak, and it is all about patience and showing noobs how to fit in. I also know that the guys here won't be patient forever, there will come a time when we go to defcon 4.

I hope I didn't come off sounding like I would say "hey newbie, read this friggin post. I don't have the time to blow on ya." That's just the opposite of what I had in mind. It would be easier and friendlier to say something like "this has come up before and there was a great thread on it a while back. I'll see if I can find it." Post it, and edit it with the link at the end when ya find it. Or do what Eddy did in the example above. I have done this a few times (one was a link to another board that I had posted to about the dual exhaust pipes) and the original poster was happy with the info. It's a computer, it's a database, it chops, slices, dices, entertains, cooks cleans and pays the bills, it a computer, use it. Then the person can discuss any further questions about the topic in further posts in the thread. Crap, I'm babbling, sorry, been a crappy (and long) day.

I think as long as its friendly, Do it.
We all have different styles and moods.
After about the 3-4th post by a new user that would have been better served by I search, I get a bit testy. On the other hand no one says you have to reply to every post either. If you don't feel you can be nice or don't feel like making a Sky post on the finer points of searching. let someone else do it.
