soo I'm kind of happy with my thunder tiger pro .28 engine its been reliable and easy to tune but i need more torque

what engine would be good to throw at the hot mess that is my savage XL,

I was thinking of getting the same as displacement that would have been fitted as stock - FME-36R01 - Force .36 5.9 £140 or the Force .32 5.2 for £120
or something of that nature, maybe a known reliable engine for a similar price point

I'm running 52/16 gearing on terrapin tyres with a 3 speed ( non BP diffs same gearing as the 25 ) i do play around with my gearing from time to time too so want to be able to have something that can handle up to 47/19 gearing from time to time

47/19 is pretty tall. I can't recall which is lower gearing, the older diffs or newer BP diffs.

Running smallish tires, traxxas 3.8 chevrons, BP diffs, hpi alloy shoes, I tried 47/18 with an LRP30 and while it worked, it takes a good amount of clutch slippage for the truck to catch up with the engine. Granted, I'm running the 2 speed trans on a short savage x. Those tires though are bigger and heavier than what I run, I have a set that came with my savage flux. So, that would count against you too.

Too bad LRP isn't around anymore, their 32 would have been a good alternative for you. I think there's a novarossi 28 that should be a solid performer:

You might want to sign up on the sister site, http://hpisavageforum.com and look around there a bit.
