New Era models has a decent amount of Savage hop ups already. I think these might be the ones he was talking about.

They also make an upper arm that will allow you to use t-maxx shocks too.

I'm betting that they are not...aluminum versus plastic...would have to be very dense plastic or composite to be heavier than the aluminum.
