I have a 2.5 tmaxx but up graded the engine to 3.3 and put metal drive shafts on it and since up the metal drive shafts on it its shredded my gearbox so was wondering if i can drop a 3.3 tranny straight into it??

No the 3.3 trans calls for 3.3 short shafts which wont work with the 2.5 chassis. Good news is you can get a 4907 extended chassis complete with trans center shafts boxes and servo mounts really cheap off ebay. Then you can completely upgrade your 2.5 to the 3.3 all together. Here is a link for chassis and servo mounts for $15.99

If you search around you can find it complete with trans and all for $75 i believe is what i paid for mine. It came with braces, transmission, servo mounts, linkage and battery & receiver boxes.

You can upgrade the 2.5 to the current 3.3 spec tranny but its not a direct swap.

If you install the FOC and get rid of reverse the 2.5 tranny will be much more reliable and will easily handle the 3.3 engine.

lads i just bought a FOC for a t-maxx and it dont look like it fits my 2.5 transmission and i couldn't help shouting out FOC when i saw that the parts look different! :hehe:
is the 2.5 trx transmission unable to do FOC?
i will get an all out 3.3 transmission soon if the 2.5 is incompatible and probably the chassis to go with it. although I've just gone and installed steel cvds for the 2.5 chassis?
think I've got the **09 version

The link above your post is the correct FOC for the black transmission. If yours does not fit you most likely purchased the FOC for the grey transmission.

Yep what Snook said. I have several black trans upgraded to FOC have not had any probs with them at all. One trans has been through three engines.

i wasn't aware that the grey trans was an entirely different trans?
is the grey for a 3.3 while the black for a 2.5?
any advantages of one over the other?
just so you know i am upgrading my engine to a picco 21tm in the next month or so?
keep the trans or loose the trans?

I just ordered me a 3.3 transmission for my 2.5. We will see how it goes and I will post my results on the install. I am new to the Tmaxx, but i love and hate that there are so many upgrades and aftermarket parts. To hard to decide what to do with it. Thanks for all your input on Tmaxx stuff its been a great help

To make a 3.3 4908/07 trany drop in for your short chassis 4910 maxx, you need a 4909 FOC #5195, #5164 brake disc, #4966X brake hex.

Well just finished the conversion from a 2.5 to a 3.3 transmission. Bolts tight in with no issues on the drivelines it fit. The only issue i had was the transmission did not have a slipper clutch, so $25.00 later I have the slipper clutch and all gearing I wanted done. i am going to attempt to post pics of my truck. I wasn't hard to upgrade at all. I do need to install the shift module, and reverse servo. Thanks for all your help and info on this subject.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359245027.838164.webpImageUploadedByTapatalk1359245052.379013.webpImageUploadedByTapatalk1359245084.726411.webp
