hey i need a new motor for my jato and I'm wondering what one will be the best. i hear nothing but good bout the OS motor. and iv had a couple 3.3's in a jato before and loved it but maybe wanting something more easily tuneable like the OS motors.

OS MOTOR

is this motor a direct drop in???? what alll do i have to change to put it in or should i just stick with the tried and true 3.3

Well i do not have experience with OS but I'm sure its actually slightly harder to tune an OS compared to trx because OS's usually have a mid speed. and even thought you usually dont touch that its still another needle that sometimes may need to be tuned for optimal performance.

Maybe its just me but i feel like the TRX is a very easy engine to work on and its power output is amazing for that little thing. even with mine i couldnt handle the speed so going to 1 speed is much more control able.

Also even though the OS is slightly smaller than the TRX it will probably be even faster because they have good powerbands and are great motors but i do believe tunning wise trx would be easier for tunning over all.

But if i could choose i would get an OS any day in the end.

Do you plan on racing the thing or thrashing ?

I do believe this would drop in no problem, the screw patterns look identical but obviously we can't know 100% from photos.. can't really find out the distance from the screws on this engine and the TRX. i believe thats the only think you should have to worry about is if those 4 screws will line up.

Good luck !!

The OS will be easier to tune since it is a higher quality engine. Normally you do't mess with the mid needle at all. Yes it will bolt up fine, no problems there. What are you going to be doing for an exhaust? The OS is a side exhaust....I can't open the link for some reason...is the engine a slide carb or a rotory? If it is the latter I might be able to hook you up with one for a decent price.

ill be racing with this jato.

the motors exhaust is just like 3.3's exhaust only diffrerny how they connect.

the os is a slide carb like the 3.3

Sorry to tell ya but that CV-R is a side exhaust engine not a rear like the 3.3. Here is a couple pictures of mine. I used to have a nice high flow header for it...but I think it is packed up somewhere. Mine is the slide carb as well....I had a Dynamite that was the rotory carb. I have too much crap I can't even remember it all...lol But they ARE good engines for sure.

do they make an exhaust piece for it to go out the side or am i SOL in this one, and just ge tthat 3.3

or is there another SB OS motor that will literally srop righ tin

you know i faced this big which engine to put in question myself. i wanted more than a 2.5 trx can offer, but i didnt want to go crazy. my end choice was the dynamite .19t and i will post back about it when i get it in the mail.

Both are good engines. I do know this though I'm off work today until Tuesday and I'm getting my os engine broke in and it will be ripping this weekend. It's dang sure taken me long enough to get time to do it though. ;). I will send you a video sometime this weekend of it running.

I have an O.S. .15 CV-RX in my touring car, hands down the best nitro motor I've ever owned. Holds a tune great, rarely have to touch the needles, and will go for a long time before a rebuild. I wouldn't think twice about buying another OS of any kind.

i put a O.S. .21 in my jato it is a true bolt in. more power. only small amounts of carb adjustment. it has more power than a 3.3. and you dont have to worry about broken con rods.

I would do the os 21tm or 18tz. I don't think the tz is a direct drop in though....unless they make one that accepts the trx clutch now.
You need a slide carb rear exhaust.
