    You can also use a 12 VDC regulated power supply that can be found at most radio shops and at Radio Shack. A good charger is a must and a balance charger is a good investment for the future as it will not only charge the NiMH you currently have, but can charge the newer LiPo and LiFe batteries...

    The battery charger for the RC car is designed to hook up to a 1:1 car battery not a charger.

    For your rig I'd go with the 4200kV set and a 2s LiPo battery. Also remember to get the Castle Link programmer.

    Also the higher the kV rating, the lower the torque and the lower the voltage it can handle.

    I would say that if you can't reprogram the ESC, that it may be a good idea to get one that can be programmed.

    Is it a brushed motor (2 wires going to the motor) or brushless (3-wires going into the motor)?

    It sounds like an ESC programming issue. Is it a stock ESC or an aftermarket?
