Repurposed Xmas present...
Got these bicycle lights in the stocking, first thought is how to put them on the mutant!
Headlight is 1200 lumen with a built in 2000mah 18650, rear is "active"brake and taillight with built in 650 mah.
Both are waterproof and USB rechargeable.
They seem like a much...
Rainy Xmas day in FLA, got some body additions done.
Added some exhausts and a scoop from a Goodwill find M&M hot rod dispenser.
Lots of cool stuff to be had at Goodwill...
The scoop is too tall and will def get destroyed in a rollover so I made it easily removable when running. I'm looking for...
Hot Racing has a stainless motor plate available now.
They also offer an 8mm spacer to allow 540 motors to be used without grinding the chassis.
I got the plate but passed on the spacer.
Well made piece with good hardware, should reinforce the motor mount nicely.
Couple of issues, tho...

Here's where I got mine, lots of other vendors there also. It took 11 days to arrive- pretty quick! Great radio so far, and they have cheaper versions..
Good luck...
Most all of my rigs are Hobbywing powered. Inexpensive, reliable and tunable. I use mostly DumboRC TX/RX combos for the same reasons.
Really liking the DDF-350 TX. Software is at V1.0.6 and there is a USB-C port for updates and "coach" mode (???). Hopefully they will provide updates, this model...
Traxxas stuff is gone!
Installed a Hobbywing Quicrun combo- WP10BL120 ESC and a 3660 3150KV motor. Currently using a 15T pinion.
Much better tuning options and a 5mm motor shaft. Still experimenting with ESC settings and pinion size but it is a much better system than the Traxxas (which was just...
Got some new tires off an Amazon sale.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QPR4XNQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The originals are fantastic even (because?) of no foam but they are getting pretty worn.
The new ones are same offset and width and about 5mm taller. They include...
Well, another broken saver
Factory replacement bottom plate broken this time. Truck would only steer right. When I removed it it flew apart.
I had ordered two replacements from Horizon and believe it or not the second (unused, never installed) saver was broken in the same place.
I'm glad...
Not a big Elon fan but his approach of "fail fast, fail often" applies here...
You're gonna love it. If I want to just hoon around the yard and simply have fun this is my go-to. Besides the wonky servo saver this thing is about indestructible. There's people on the tubes doing some pretty brutal...
Here's some mods to reinforce and use Redcat/ Summitlink or other 1/10 compatible bodies on the Gorgon chassis.
These bodies are PVC but really common and cheap. The problem is there is not enough support to stop the body from trashing itself on hard inverted landings.
Previously in this thread...
It IS a mutant, after all...:D
It's Duplicolor, supposedly works on flexible auto bumpers and stuff. We'll see how it holds up on the bug PVC exterior. I think I have enough bumpers to protect against most scrapes.
Strange is good. I like strange.
Two more packs yesterday and today and the...
Another saver bites the dust
Different failure mode, unrepairable.
Crappy design and proprietary.
I have one more factory one and a Kimbrough 124.
I'll try the factory one again then the Kimbrough.
Looking for a metal one with enough clearance for the tie rod ends.
Any suggestions?
Bug...
Same here. Only reason to put one on is because the body has wing mounting stanchions molded in. I may just make a plate from 1/8" PVC just big enough to span the stanchions and use the existing bumpers on that.
Had some good progress in the last few days.
Three packs in and the servo saver mod seems to be working. If it fails again I'll use the Kimmy saver.
To provide more protection to the bug body I added an RPM bumper from a Slash. It's just provisionally mounted with a couple of screws, I'll...
Spectrum S660 servo is 5kg with a 25 tooth spline.
Servo saver saver  plan...
After examining the failure mode of the factory servo saver, I've determined it's due to the molded/pressed on retainer ring breaking off the bottom part of the servo saver, allowing the spring to fly off into...
Tie rod hole spacing on factory saver is wider than standard savers. Cannot use stock tie rods or adjustables as they bind.
Probably get a Kimbrough 124 saver and add a pair of adjustable tie rods to make up the difference..
Well, it happened...
The suspicious servo saver exploded.
I figured it was a "weak link" but assumed Arrma designed it right.
No way of putting it back together either.
I tried a bunch of savers of different types and none of them are usable.
Proprietary stuff is not good.
Anybody figure out a...
