Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

No idea, I just got it in a trade from someone who got it from someone else. I've checked the feel of the drive train and everything seems to be about right. Diffs are just a little bit firm, but everything seems to move very smoothly. I probably should look into all that though and check...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

I'm pretty happy with the 4.5:1 ratio I have. It'll let me get a few speed runs on 3S before thermal shutdown, and on 2S it's pretty fast but seems to not overheat. With the 6.5+ pound weight of the vehicle with batteries, I'm well satisfied with this. It's slightly faster than it was before...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Well, I was disappointed with the top speed, so I'm at 54:12, or 4.5:1, which gives me great top speed at 2S and plenty of power, but I'm not overheating on that 2S, and I'll save the 3S for occasional speed runs. Also I got a 1/16th E-Revo VXL, and that thing with 4S will go over 50MPH, so I'm...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Well I weighed it, and it's between 6 and 6.5 pounds. The previous gear ratio was 4.67:1, but now it's 6:1. I haven't been able to run it since switching over, but we'll see what happens. Maybe now it'll do wheelies on a 2S with the extra torque!

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Gotcha. Well, it could also be largely due to age, seeing as it's a several-years-old set.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Mine is old, before 2.4Ghz TQ. but still does really well for its age, and at least its thermal shut down works still. I think it's the ESC and not the motor but I'm not sure.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

    What do you mean "smaller?" It's a Stampede 4x4 VXL, a high-end 1/10th.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Wow, I guess it really is made for 2S. It already has only a 12T pinion gear, and the axle gear looks to be the biggest that will physically fit. I'd have to add a jack shaft to get a lower gear reduction, or smaller wheels.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

In doing a little more research, it looks like the Stampede, although having 3S-capable electronics, is really designed for 2S (hence my issues, most likely). So I'll go with the 2S lipos for a while and see how it performs. That's my cheapest option as I can return the 3S lipos since I got...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Well I just remembered that the ESC has a "training mode" which uses 50% max throttle. I just did some testing, and a 3S at 50% throttle is only a *little* slower than a 2S at full power, and it would probably give me the longest runtime overall. Also, I tried the PC fan, doesn't do enough...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

If I'm running a 2S, I shouldn't need it (so I may make it easy to remove), and with a 3S I'll just plug into the balance leads. And a 2S will still run a computer fan OK, just much lower RPM than otherwise.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Why wouldn't I run it straight from the battery? That's what I was planning on.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

It has 3 very tiny ones, maybe an inch square each or so, two on the motor (with a small additional heatsink), and one on the ESC. But I think I'll add the PC fan to start. It's pretty lightweight, but I'll probably have to use steel to mount it because that's all I have access to right now...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Gearing down is certainly going to be cheap. Although I can return my 3S batteries still (bought them from Amazon), so going to 2S might be a cheaper start.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Dude I have a go kart, like I fit on it (although barely), and I'm genuinely thinking of getting a receiver and a large servo and making it RC. But I'm scared of having a 200-lb RC car, that I'll damage something.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

You could always reinforce it with some steel underplating. Might have to use a smaller pinion gear for the extra weight though,

Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty new here and new to the hobby.

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Cool thanks. As a side note, I think I'm going to make a very interesting one-off build sometime. I have a motor I took from a drill, and it has its own ESC in the trigger. I'm thinking I'll just get a receiver and add an extra servo to actuate the trigger, and use a couple of relays and a...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Can you recommend a brand to look for, or should I just go to my local hobby shop and see what they have? I'm not afraid of the challenge of custom mounting a PC fan though if you think that could be a good option. They're huge, but they sure would move a lot of air. Might start with that for...

Best way to stop overheating on Stampede 4x4 VXL?

Should I really do both though? Or should I start with just doing one, and see if that's enough?
