    Class 2 Gspeed build

First comp is Saturday. I got the Class 2 rig out on the rocks. It’s been raining and Hyrax tires and wet mud are not the best combination. But I wanted to practice. Then I said “Better Film it” well that got me a lot more practice than I would have gotten not filming. Two battery packs and 25...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

The class 2 truck needed a whole lot more tuning than I thought. It had a couple issues and was tuned more scale and trail truck than rock crawler. I really like the smaller wheels but they did not do it and the 80mm shocks also caused a little performance issues with articulation. So I...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

First comp is in two weeks. Time to get the Class 2 out and start running the crap out of it every day. This is going to be fun. The rig is pretty good but the winch needs a better fairlead and I gotta check my bumper width. I like the tires from Vanquish that came with the vs410 but I will...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

This is nice. Now I need a longer rear drive shaft but I knew that. I just have to wait because I actually need two of them. I need to get out and crawl with this to see how the 80mm shocks do. I love the way it sits. But will it crawl??

    Class 2 Gspeed build

Hard Core RC nailed it. The rear wheel is perfectly centered in the wheel well. 12.5 inch wheelbase should climb well. I put 80mm shocks on it to see how it all looks. Might switch back to 90. Still need to rebuild and tune everything. But this was the part that stumped me.

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I am still waiting for the links to set the wheel base at 12.5 inches. I did a mock up and the length is good but I’m worried about the front to rear ratio. I don’t want the rear wheels forward and the front wheels hitting the bumper. I have the front sorted with a mismatch of links. But the...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

Going the Class 2 rig back together. I am getting a set of Hard Core RC links. Be a week or more. Tried to make the links but I just don’t have enough odd links to get the wheelbase and driveline right. Putting in a Team Garage Hack 2.low trans with a 2200 kv Revolver V2 Plenty of power...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

After a lot of back and forth in my head today I realized what my problem is with this class 2 build. I just have this nagging thing of something ain’t right and it hit me. My Toyota class 2 truck is hitting 7 pounds with brassed up portals and the FMM a winch and mamba X it is huge. Meanwhile I...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

After driving the truck again this morning I am a little more confident the gearing will help. And I am going to get some 80mm shocks. The fenders are designed so the tires go all the way up to the top without touching. So I can drop the whole rig 10mm. This is all looking pretty good. Might...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I got the portals installed. I still need a shorter steering link. But I did get a short test drive. It feels like it’s stuck in first gear. Good off the line performance. But then it just stops accelerating. From half throttle on it’s not much difference. I think the gears will help. I...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

As a baseline I drove around my back yard snow track and did one lap at 20 seconds. An average lap and actually this thing has to much speed and I think with the axles I have in it I could change from 13/56 to 11/56 and still fell like it’s going to fast enough on a trail. Looking at the...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

Ya the video did show that it’s not a better or worse thing is a different thing between the two. On this class 2 rig the portal suspension was really good everything was just a little better. Just the wheel speed was not acceptable at all.

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I just watched this video from Exocage RC He made me change my mind four times and now I want to lay down. I want to like portals.

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I found a face book post and a u tube video about adding overdrive to the front and rear of portals when swapping from straight axles to portals on Axial based vehicles. So against my wishes I’m going to do some experiments with this class 2 truck. Figure out how fast it can cover a given...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

Here is the problem. I don’t want to buy Capra axles and have the same problem with my G shot. I bought a front AR45 and two rear AR45 portal because I was thinking about a portal rear with straight front. But the gearing issue made my head hurt. I have been scouring the web and am just more...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

Ya me too I don’t want to buy a bunch of parts and begin a science experiment. I am hoping someone has been down this rabbit hole already. I want to like portals. But so far I like straight axles. I’m thinking I should get the AR45 straight axle conversion kit for this. But the 44s work great.

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I’m having trouble getting my head around portals. I built this rig with the intention of using AR45s . The offset diff and portals give extra clearance. I used a forward motor mount with this so the engine is under the right side and the driveshaft is running beside the motor. And goes...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I got the Class 2 truck out today for a trail run. What a blast. 2:45 minutes on two battery packs. No break downs and no hand of god flip overs. I just blasted around the trails. I got stuck in a root and used my winch to pull off of it. Other than that it was pure fun. The second video is a...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I just had to put in an interior. It just looked bad with a big hole and wires and stuff. But I did not want a full plastic heave one with a figure. To much weight. So I cut up an old Lexan crawler body and now I have a nice set of red leather seats. Perfect fit after very careful cutting and...

    Class 2 Gspeed build

I had a problem using the vanquish rod ends on my cheater rig but now that this is finished I had to replace all the crappy metal ends I built it with. So now it solid as a rock. With no play
