Went from a 16t to a 12t spur gear. What a difference! I can actually drive up a curb now without cogging.
I've still got an 11t in the tool box if I want to go a little lower, but this seems to be working well.
Does anyone know where to find these body posts?
Kiddo had a particularly hard crash last night and broke one. I figured it would be easy to hunt down, but it seems like they're bigger than the commonly available 1/10 scale versions, and everything larger than that is proprietary now.
Those wheel adapters did the trick! Truck is back on proper tires.
So now I've got the 150A speed control in with the big tires and I'm still seeing some cogging, although not as bad as before. Next step will be to drop the pinion gear a few teeth, and if that doesn't do it, I guess I'll just...
So I ordered these: https://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=6008&p_catid=29
I didn't want the extra 6mm spacing, so I *think * I got what I needed. They show up next week sometime
I also did some math. Mistakes with guessing and checking parts (and ordering new ones to fix the mistakes)...
So this thing is turning out to be an impressive learning experience for me. Got my new esc, got lower pinion gears just in case I need em, got my new wheels buuuut.... New wheels don't fit. They're 17mm and I assumed that's what this truck had since I only saw 12mm and 17mm wheels being sold...
That's some good info! The new chassis definitely looks lighter and more nimble. I'm currently running mine at 4s since primarily a 5 year old is going to be driving it and it was easier to lay everything out without thinking about running dual batteries.
I wasn't sure if my kid would like this type of setup or not, so I went amazon cheapo.
Motor is a Surpass hobby black 4076:

ESC is a Surpass 120A brushless ESC

I figured if they played with it enough, we'd upgrade
Oh right on, thanks for the info. Fingers crossed I'll actually be able to drive up a curb with the 11t. It chokes with a 15t, but hauls hairy butt on the top end down the street. If it's not that, then maybe my cheapo amazon ESC I bought sucks.
I've never messed around with RC gearing before. Is the difference between a 15t and an 11t pretty dramatic? I'm more after acceleration since I want to use this thing for wheelies and jumps
Welp, I thought the old tires and wheels looked soooo cool, but they don't stand up to the new motor and battery.
Can't find anything monster trucky with a 3" inner diameter, and definitely not a 3" inner diameter and a 6.8" outer diameter.
I found these bad boys on amazon for a decent...
Gonna have to measure the hex and see where I'm at tire-wise. I haven't had the wheels off of this thing in like 8 years. Might just try to run the stock ones til the shred for now.
Not sure if I should start a seperate thread or what, but the build continues as parts show up. Got the center...
The hard part for me has been finding tires for it. I've got a cut on the inside sidewall on one of the tires. I really like the style of the 3" rims, but finding a decent monster truck tire to fit that are still 6.8" tall has been rough. Best I could come up with are these proline wheels and...
Dragging this back up from the depths because I just fished an mgt 4.6 out of my garage for the kiddo and decided I didn't want to deal with nitro. I found one company in greece that still makes the conversion designed to work with a 1/8th center diff rather than use the existing transmission...
